Calcium & Vit K2
There's an interesting post on Medscape entitled "Is Calcium Good or Bad": http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/838659 This has relevance to AFibbers as arterial calcification (atherosclerosis) is a risk with warfarin use, particularly where Vit K intake is reduced (as some old fashioned doctors and

Steroids
Hi everyone, Hows the weather over there? It was 38 degrees here last night. Heat wave! 8 degrees tonight plus wind will feel colder. I was reading about how steroids ( pills and inhalers) thin your bones. Just wondered if you guys are taking calcium, Vitamin d, and vitamin k. Plus we need to be doing

Patient leaflet with Nature Throid
Does anyone know what this means, please, on the Patient Leaflet in my pack of Nature Throid? I'm taking vitamin k with my vitamin D so I found this warning baffling: 'Drug Interactions: oral anticoagulants: Thyroid hormones appear to increase catabolism of vitman k- dependent clotting factors. If oral

Warfarin and vitamin K2 supplements
Hi everyone, I've been on warfarin for nearly 3 years now. No real dramas with it and it's the only medication I'm on for APS. What s concerning me now is the potential serious side effects of warfarin namely 1) increased risk of calcification of arteries, 2) increased risk of osteoporosis. Warfarin

Stabilising INR with Vitamin K2
I've been meaning to write this post for a while but never got around to it - but Christo has nudged me to get on and do it! In summary, I've had great success stabilising my INR using Vitamin K2. And I don't bother about what I eat or drink either. All I do is take 1 tablet of 90mcg of Jarrow MK-7

Vitamin K deficiency doesn't cause PA
I was just reading this webpage: http://www.gutsense.org/gutsense/ibs.html and I came across this sentence: "Vitamin K deficiency is behind internal bleedings, pernicious anemia, inoperable ulcers, and strokes." While I'm not entirely familiar with the properties of vitamin K, I did recognize immediately

Warfarin, cranberries, diet, &c
Attended my first anti-coag. clinic a few weeks ago and was very pleased to find that I do not have to make any major changes to my (vegetarian) diet; just eat normally, BUT avoid drinking Cranberry or Grapefruit juices because they are high in vitamin K and would thus speed up clotting. I was expecting

Vitamins and Minerals - Food sources
Hi folks, No advice here, just links for more information should anyone be interested. This link gives a list of foods with magnesium, potassium and calcium. Good combinations for us! Again this is all personal and one should investigate further to obtain proper levels and combinations. http://

multivitamins
Read somewhere that as a lady in my 60's I should consider taking a good multivitamin daily--obviously without Vitamin K in it, At the moment I take the dreaded Bisoprolol and Warfarin but nothing else. Not sure what to take. Do have a healthy diet and a fair amount of exercise and any bouts of extreme

On Coumadin-forgot my Vitamin K food yesterday--Can I eat more today??
Yikes, for the first time I totally did not eat anything with Vitamin K yesterday except for grapes. Should eat more than usual today or just go back on track for the rest of the week.

Conflicting GP advice
I had a few clots 20+years ago , was diagnosed as having APS on warfarin for 5+ years. Then consistently tested negative for all clotting disorders. I came off warfarin and was just on Aspirin no problems for years. Have felt a bit 'off colour' for a few months and at the beginning of July discovered

Vitamin K what about it?
Hi I have just joined this community due to my 20 year olds sudden and severe (from mid calf to above the thigh clot) is that size unusual? I am interested in some people mentioning Vit k. As a newborn in 1994 the maternity doctor forced me to accept vitamin K for my son as the fashion at that time was

Hello, AWOL long time! Update & questions?
Few weeks ago my cardiologist prescribed Amioderone, saying it would increase the chances of my second ablation for PA being effective. It does seem to help the horrid sensations of AF in my chest. But, concerned about side effects. Feeling generally unwell and last 2 days severe pain in my right shoulder

About to be prescribed warfarin for the first time, is there an alternative?. I eat a lot of foods with vitamin K.
This may sound silly but I don't want to have to restrict my diet, it would have to be a really radical change on my part, I eat lots of Watercress, Brocolli, Sprouts etc, basically all the things you are told to eat in small amount or avoid!
