At a Dialysis Crossroads
I have to decide whether to get a fistula in my arm and go with hemodialysis, or go with peritoneal dialysis. I spent a couple of hours in a center talking to a couple of nurses about peritoneal dialysis and it sounds like a bad choice given its near constant presence in your life. With hemodialysis

Has anyone had a failed Fistulogram Procedure?
Hi everyone, I had my fistula done 5/4/21. It had worked great in dialysis until 2 weeks ago when my clearance numbers started going down to .8. I had my first Fistulogram yesterday and apparently is was a complete fail! My clearance at dialysis today was lower than before the procedure: .58. This

Vein Mapping
I have vein mapping done next week. I'm worried about all these doctor's visits adding up in cost for copays, but what can I do I have to get things done. I haven't looked up vein mapping yet so I don't know the process, but it is one step closer to starting Dialysis. I'm worried when I think about it

GFR drop-potassium high
Just had labs and my GRF dropped from 15 to 10 & creatinine went from 3.16 to 4.67. Potassium level went up too over 5( critical value). I drink at least 64 oz of water a day and watch my potassium, salt & protein intake. Started adding in some plant based proteins. I also take sodium bicarb twice

Too old at 56 to donate to my 79 year old mom? Long term effects?
I am a 56 year old, active mom of 4 kids ages 17-28. About 6 months ago my 79 year old mom informed our family that she is in end-stage KD due to kidney “trauma” that occurred 10 years ago when she underwent chemotherapy to treat her breast cancer. She also told us that doctors recommend starting the

New here. From all I read, dialysis sounds horrific. Why aren’t more people stepping up to be living donors 4 family members instead?

The Queens first steps inside the Dialysis Center
Hi everyone. I went to dialysis education yesterday. It was the very first time I went inside a building I have past a million times knowing it was where people got dialysis. Going in I felt a wealth of emotions none greater than sadness. It felt suffocating and surreal to be honest. Me and my mom

Hello I have a brother in the hospital recovering from covid thank God he will make a good recovery he's only allowed 1 visitor for 1 hour everyday. I went to see our brother to just try & spend some time with him his wife beat me to it a few minutes earlier. He's going to require dialysis I think twice

Does anyone has this rare kidney disease (familial hypercalciuria, hypomagnesemia and nephrocalsinosis)?
I have been diagnosed with a very rare kidney disease since day 1 which called familial hypercalciuria, hypomagnesemia and nephrocalsinosis. Not a single doctor figured out a way to treat my condition or in other words nothing worked for me like: (sodium citrate, potassium citrate, potassium bicarbonate

Dear Support Group Diary,
I need to vent today. All of our stories are very unique to each person, however they nearly all end up on the same path - - dialysis, transplant, ect. So for the sake of my keyboard, lol I'm going to skip the beginning details of this story and flash to the part where I've worked my ass off to

Activity restrictions on peritoneal dialysis?
I just attended my first PD orientation and I am very sad to learn that once the catheter is in place I won't be able to soak in a bathtub or go swimming. The RN didn't seem in favor of doing other strenuous sports like snowboarding or running. Have other been able to stay active and do sports while
