Advice about CUFFED tracheostomy at home
There is talk of him coming home when he has an uncuffed
tracheostomy
and still feeding through his RIG. My question is has anyone experience of coming home with a CUFFED
tracheostomy
as if he can't tolerate cuff down after 8-10 weeks, he'll have this for a very long time.

Another milestone!
In my opinion that obviously because he has a
tracheostomy
which makes it harder to breathe especially if it's hot weather. He never ceases to amaze me, my superhero 💖

ICU/Intubation
I ended up waking up with a
tracheostomy
, (I could not talk) lost all of my functions & muscle mass. Being in ITU and no motor functions was so hard. I was having food via a tube,my mouth was dry, having no sense of day/night. I could not have any visitors because of covid restrictions.

They were saying he'd have to go to a nursing home in Leeds to live, for
tracheostomy
care. We said ABSOLUTELY NOT, he's coming home, and we'll sign any paperwork to take responsibility for that. Still working on getting the cuff down so he can have different trachy.

A question if you've had a tracheostomy.
Is it just me or does anyone else regularly get food and drink into your windpipe. Its not a full blown choking episode but very close, and requires a slow big deep breath and strong cough to shift it. I know when I have managed to shift it because it normally comes flying out.

i’ve posted twice before the first post was about me choosing to give her a
tracheostomy
or not with intubation and the second one was just about a week or so ago regarding the two females that had brought up Hospice to me.

Stroke?
He was still in intensive care with a cuffed
tracheostomy
due to having no swallow and vocal cord paralysis. Fast forward quite a few months and we are still in a very similar position, unfortunately.

Update (from the wife!)
He's had a surgical
tracheostomy
now and off sedation but has such muscle wastage around his body, he can't move his arms/legs etc and has subluxation of the shoulders, which isn't helping. I just thought I'd give you an update.

Seeking support
My
tracheostomy
site looked like it had healed but I spotted discharge yesterday. One of the most distressing things is my hair is falling out and I have a third of it left. I would love some advice on this. Is there a support video call that happens for the community?

Are there any members of this group who are aware of anyone being placed into an induced coma with pneumonia and whilst in the coma suffered kidney issues and were placed on dialysis and then came off it. Has anyone knowledge of anyone coming out of an induced coma and being unable to speak or move

Friday update
Ralphs had a really good week , even though it was BH. Physio are pleased with him and say he can walk up and down the ward corridor without a nurse with him as long as he asks if it's okay each time. Had his cuff down and hour a day, and today SALT took it down at 11 this morning and stayed and played

Next day update
Hi, saw SALT guy today. Ralph isn't going anywhere. He's been ringing round last 2 weeks and finally got to speak to the top woman in London. She says what he wants to do wouldn't work. Told him to work on getting the cuff down even if it takes a couple of months. The electric treatment didn't work,

Ralph as cheerful as ever. Said a Dr from ENT came this morning and said we have a plan and walked out, lol. Not the consultant. I asked the nurse, she said yes he said keep going with the tracheotomy and take down to the next size. No idea what consultant thinks or even if he's seen the film yet. I

Another day
He's the same as he was, but his results aren't as good as we hoped. His swallow isn't as strong as it should be and ENT and speech therapist tried him with cuff down on the tracheotomy and holding over the opening, but he could only breathe in but not out. So they're going to arrange to put a smaller

Update
Ralph has had a mostly good week. He had an off day on Tuesday and didn't have his shock treatment, but had it on Wednesday and it's his last one today, Thursday. ENT will assess next Monday. Next week he's also having a PEG fitted in his tummy and will get his feed through that until he can eat and
