Challenging time ahead
Whilst in hospital the oncologist informed me that the pluerodesis operation had not been a success, my lung had filled with fluid again, there was growth and the next step maybe to take me off maintenance chemotherapy and try me on

Just a quick update
So we decided that depending on how much more progression I had would tell us when I needed to start IV chemo and then we would decide whether I went on maintenance (Alimta) for a while or started
Tarceva
or clinical trial (Afatinib or chemo).

Help Liver Met after all the treatment.(Squamous Cell 9cm upper right lobe, with mediastinal involvement.)
cancer had spread to the liver,,4cm tumour. The further bad news was that they could not put him straight back onto chemo ,because his lymph/leuk count has been consistently low 0.2 since finishing treatment 12 weeks ago. There was some mention of radiofrequency ablation, but I am now wondering about

More Tips for Managing Tarceva Skin Toxicity
Prior to starting treatment with
Tarceva
it is likely to help to intensively moisturise your skin & to establish a twice daily routine of cleansing & moisturising.

Not the news I wanted to hear :((
This is not a 'standard' as yet though so at present it's a complete switch then, if it works start another TKI like
Tarceva
as a third line treatment. There is a drug called Afatinib which will be used as a third line but at present it is not approved by NICE.

Coping with the side effects of tarceva
Hi I have been on
tarceva
for 3 months & have experienced skin & gastric reflux side effects. I still have them but have found a few helpful tips: For the skin problems I have used Aveeno bath oil, (a good 10-15 min soak each night in a warm -not hot bath).

Update from lung cancer study day and other things :)
It was only in 2009 a that biological therapies like Iressa and
Tarceva
were being looked at to treat stage 4, that's only 3 tears ago. They are seeing remarkable increases in survival. None of this will show up in any 'stats' for at least another 2-3 years!

People, be careful with what you read! I
Also be careful with the dietary advice especially if you are taking one of the targeted therapies like Iressa or
Tarceva
. Some food stuffs interfere with the absorption of the drug. Graprefruit and garlic capsules are 2 of them a are certain indigestion remedies.

My Mum - Update
Her next scan is on 17th May so I guess we'll find out then whether the
Tarceva
and radiotherapy have had any affect. Mum has been told she should have oxygen at home and consider either making a bedroom downstairs or getting a stair lift.

My Mum - Lots of Pain
She is only 3 weeks into her
Tarceva
and only 5 months into diagnosis so maybe I am expecting (or hoping) for too much too soon. It's just so hard to see her suffering. I would appreciate hearing your experiences. Alli x

My Mum - not good news
Mum has a large tumour in her left lung and has been on
Tarceva
for 4 weeks tomorrow but I guess it is not controlling the cancer as the chest tumour has grown in that time. She also has a large lump on her side and under her arm.
