Hi I am looking for information for my sister who has kidney cancer papillary type 2, we have found a trail in America that combines Avastin/Tarceva which they are, if she passes the relevant criteria, willing to accept her on. However, that is a move away from her family - though we can visit, she will probably be on her own. We are trying to find out if we can get Avastin here in the UK - Tarceva is available. Does anyone know how we find out about getting Avastin? thank you

How to get Avastin the in UK?
Hi familyaffair,
I think the rules for getting hold of Avastin in the UK are very much based around guidlines and trials for that particular type of cancer. Although you are obviously very welcome to post here, I don't think you will be able to get much specialist advice on access for kidney cancer papillary type 2 as we are an ovarian cancer group. We are having lots of issues figuring out the rules for ovarian cancer as it has only just been licensed for that use, and has not been considered by NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence) which will need to evaluate and recommend its use due to its high cost. You could try getting your oncologist to email ROCHE who produce Avastin and see what they say.
Good luck.
Love Lizzie

Thank you for your reply - just trying every source for information. wendyx
Hi Wendy,
The key is to find out if there is any published data supporting its use in renal Ca. Its not a panacea, and trials in some other tumor types have not showed any advantage by adding Avastin. Have a look at the NCRI website and see if they have any UK trials. You might be able to identify a UK renal oncolgist who has been involved in a study, and get some ideas from them
Good luck!
