working out fev1 as a percentage
Hi I've bought an asthma-1 Vitalograph FEV1 to monitor my asthma between appointments as I don't think peak flow really shows my asthma up very well. When I blow into it it just shows a number eg 3.87 , not a percentage as it doesn't measure FVC and there's no instructions in with it other than a diagram

Nausea - is it the pred, or something else?
Hello and thank you for the constant flow of useful insights. I know that stomach problems are a known side effect of steroid use, but I couldn’t see anything under nausea in the FAQs - sorry if I’ve missed it. This is my story: I’m 73, PMR diagnosed in summer 2020; since when I have reduced successfully

Quick update and my usual questions to follow 🙄..... Brilliant presentation!
It’s good to hear that the right messages are getting out there. This presentation was at a Low Carb conference. https://youtu.be/ZE6-FHf-0oY?si=1KSnuGcRexz4SvMw

Still don’t really know if I have asthma or not
Hi, I know I’ve posted similar to this before but I suppose it’s because I don’t know where I stand in terms of breathing/ asthma status I do also have anxiety which I’ve received help for but I still feel on edge with the whole I might have asthma thing. I have had tests which haven’t revealed anything

Liothyronin T3 and insulin resistance
I’ve been doing some research as my blood sugar levels (measured by HbA1C) have been persistently high despite exercise, low carb diet, weight loss and muscle gain. Prompted by the very wise SlowDragon that T3 can cause high sugars, I decided to delve deeper. I came across a lot of articles online

Diet Advice
hey all, My mum continues to fight, and I’m determined not to let her give in to this awful illness. she’s agreed to make a good effort with food, and the NHS dietician isn’t going to be able to see her until mid Feb earliest. what should she be doing? I previously thought it was low carb, med diet

Do you ever feel like you are choking on mucus?
I am a recently diagnosed asthmatic after a horrible experience two month ago when I was in hospital for two weeks. About a week and a half ago I got a cold that left me very snotty and has slowly moved to my chest. Yesterday, I found myself breathing noisily on inhale and exhale. It was quite frightening

Anastrozole and Adcal-D3 - hypothyroidism and hormone positive breast cancer
I have been prescribed Adcal- D3 as the medication I have been prescribed for breast cancer has been known to cause osteoporosis. (Anastrozole). I have several questions: 1. Adcal-D3 contains soy oil - I thought soy contained plant oestrogen which was similar to human? Is it safe to take given my

peak flow is okay but struggling to breathe
is anyone struggling to breathe even if the peak flow doesn't drop much? My best is 550 on Symbicort plus Spiriva and I find that the peak flow doesn't drop below 470-500 even if I struggle to breathe with tight and burning chest? Sometimes even with confirmed chest infection and wheeze across chest

Visit to endocrinologist and Prednisone at wee hours.
I visit my, very helpful, endocrinologist every three months. Yesterday we were discussing my medication and I was telling her that I was taking prednisone at around 2-4 am in the morning -when I got up . She asked me why take it at night? Well, I had a garbled expression as to how we think about

Neurologist update and gaviscon
Just a quick update. I met with the private neurologist and she was very perplexed. She did a very thorough physical examination and said I was neurologically normal- meaning no loss of balance, sensations, numbness, etc. She said the symptoms I have are similar to small fiber neuropathy but the examination

Low Carb Plant Based Help!
I'm trying sooo hard to go plant based, but struggle getting full without chicken, turkey or fish (no red meat!). Every vegetarian recipe I find has lot of carbs, and as a diabetic, they all immediately raise my blood sugar (yes, even whole grains). I'd like to find about a dozen meals I can just cycle

Week4 Run3
Completed run 3 yesterday, really enjoyed the run and tried running the first two segments slower so that I could pick up the pace on the last two run segments, I did achieve that, but it made very little difference to my overall time, I think my asthma is improving, but I have been a bit more vigilant

it feels like I'll never get better
Hi! I've had constant air hunger every day since June. During my early teens, I was diagnosed with asthma caused by cats. I got prescribed Ventolin which I used when in contact with cats, it helped. I never had any other issues with asthma. As I was young, the allergy tests only confirmed me being
