Small intestine bacterial overgrowth (SIBO)

I have heard many people with suspected IBS actually have SIBO or also have SIBO which exacerbates symptoms. Has anyone had a SIBO test? Could SIBO symptoms be mistaken for IBS? Can you get SIBO tests on the NHS?

But do they work for SIBO ? As far as I understand, decreased motility of the small intestine would worsen SIBO symptoms.

Hi all Am trying to find nhs gastro that deals with Sibo, some one mentioned checking website to check they cover Sibo, but I don’t seem to be able find that info Any ideas please?

Parkinson’s, in turn, affects intestinal motility, increasing the risk of SIBO and perpetuating the cycle.

Am thinking sort Sibo and then do Zoe programme to move forward. Have upcoming operation but they won’t do it if I haven’t lost weight. Any help greatly appreciated x

I was diagnosed with Sibo,silent reflux, low stomach acid, coeliac. Does anyone have experience how to get rid of sibo without antibiotics. The stomach is also swollen like balloon. How to increase stomach acidity. Because of the sibo I can’t consume kefir and sauerkraut.

Does anyone have any experience of Histamine Allergy & SIBO alongside established PA? Are they linked? Currently on weekly B12 SI. All symptoms of PA are under control. Now addressing Histamine allergy & supplements for SIBO.

Hi all, Wondering if anyone else with hypo/hashis has been diagnosed with SIBO? I’ve started Rifaximin today for a SIBO diagnosis (private, of course, my NHS GP said “what’s SIBO” when I took the test result to her).

To my surprise, the test revealed I had SIBO, a bacterial overgrowth that’s treatable with antibiotics. While I might still have underlying IBS, SIBO was the main reason my symptoms got so unbearable this last year.

hi I have had SIBO/IBS for years now. In. Recent months I’m seeing incomplete bowel feeling as do decent amount of poop but at the end there is always something leftover. Anyone who’s been through this ?

Just recently I saw some research that said Levothyroxine causes SIBO especially in those with slow gut mobility. Some research has found taking liquid thyroxine actually improves this and has led to SIBO being resolved. Has anyone tried this? It seems available on the NHS. I’ve added a link.

I strongly suspect I have SIBO and have booked an appointment with my GP to discuss. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

We know that 67% of PwP have insulin resistance and a high % have leaky gut and SIBO. So: Refilling the gut with probiotics should help repair the gut lining and reduce the presence of harmful bacteria. Anyone tried it? Does it conflict with the no-dairy recommendation somehow?

Phoned GP to ask about sibo test to be told not available on nhs. He's hopefully getting a referral to gastroenterology. Sibo seems highly likely in everything we've read compared to his symptoms so we'd like to get him tested. Do we need a referral to get a private test?

I saw one website say diet can cause SIBO, however most suggest diet (such as low FODMAP) is a symptom management thing and not a potential cause. So can diet cause SIBO? Because I do enjoy sugary foods, so if this can cause SIBO, seems like the most likely explanation...

Anyone got any experience with SIBO and hydrogen sulphide gas (probably more people in US) as there is a test for it there.

Does SIBO causes fevers or is that an unrelated symptom? I had low grade fevers (up to 38.4C) for about a year coinciding with food allergy symptoms. Never found out the cause and i've been discharged now.
