GP visit!
So I went to see my GP yesterday and discussed my symptoms, and asked about B12 injections. Got the same old story - test within range, symptoms aren’t bad enough, try oral B12 for three months, despite my explaining that I have low stomach acid and problems with malabsorption, which she again dismissed

Rheumatoid Arthritis and pain across shoulders
My husband has RA and gets a lot of pain across the top of his shoulders. He also has osteoarthritis aswell, and has had both knees replaced. He is on tocilizumab infusions every four weeks. When he spoke to one of the RA doctors about it (not his favourite one!) he was told it was due to 'scar tissue

Intrinsic Factor
It occurred to me that it must be possible to synthesise Intrinsic Factor as a supplement to replace what PA people have lost. Does anyone of a scientific bent have any thoughts on this idea?

Positive clonus and lupus
Hello :) I've recently been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and a lupus overlap. I have now been told I have a positive clonus reflex. I don't know if I should be concerned that it is linked or the physio is just being thorough referring me to my GP for further investigation. If anyone has had

HRT and B12
So I went to see an actual Doctor, having been diagnosed with PA by the nurses last summer, with a B12 level of 143.His opening gambit, having looked at the September blood results, serum vitamin B12 = 496, was "You do not have Pernicious Anemia!" Stupid me hadn't SId for 4 days, because I wanted the

Help Needed! Have I got Pernicious Anaemia?
I hope this isn't too long and/or too boring. I suspect I have PA but as with a lot of people here, no-one seems to take B12 deficiency seriously. I also have hypothyroidism so as my symptoms got increasingly worse over the past few years, I blamed my thyroid - the two conditions have many symptoms

Feeling poorly
Spoke to my GP yesterday and sent me for blood tests today to
test
for inflammatory markers,
Rheumatoid
factor
etc due to symptoms, family history and due to the fact the private doctor I saw thought my symptoms pointed to polymyalgia rheumatica. I also had TFT.

Newbie and confused. Functional B12 deficiency?
Hi everyone, I am new here but I have been a member of the thyroid forum for many years. I've also just joined the Sjogren's and the lupus groups because some of my symptoms could be attributed to these though I have no diagnoses, and the Changing Faces group for my rhinophyma. I have Hashi's and thyroid

Gum disease
I've been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis since the beginning of 2023, but I've had symptoms for probably a year or more before that. Only been taking methotrexate for 5 months. The last couple of visits to my dental hygienist have not been good at all. I'm being told I have gum disease with periodontal

Help! Have I messed up
I have just had a telephone consultation with a GP hoping for help with the symptoms I have been experiencing. I tried to point him in the direction of the relevant guidelines for treating B12 deficiency, he said that he was familiar with the NICE CKS as he deals with B12 all the time and I m not anaemic

symptoms with treated PA
Hello forum Autoimmune Metaplastic Atrophic Gastritis (AMAG) results in the loss of parietal cells which causes a loss of production of stomach acid and intrinsic factor (IF). The loss of IF results in low B12. My general query is; are there consequences and symptoms connected to a lack of stomach

Bit old fashioned...
I discovered that a castor oil pack really helps with knee pain. It's horrible sticky oil, but it works topically (for me at least). I have bad memories of this stuff from my childhood. Any hint of sickness and out came the bottle. I would not recommend injesting it! 🤮 it's better than the deep heat

I am very fortunate that I can pop down to P.A. Society Head Quarters to lend a hand. I did this morning. There are 4 volunteers helping the small amount of staff run the organisation . The person there today was inundated when I rocked up. As they are everyday. We could talk for weeks but I said, ‘No

Found a new way to screw up.
So I am transitioning from swimming due to water temperature to hiking up the side of a mountain at the same time I stopped injecting and went with sublingual. (Only a mile up the mountain.) My body did adjust which is not using up my B12 or reversing out. The only symptom that seemed to get worse and

Hi all sorry if your fed up reading people's symptoms etc.... I'm feeling a little lost and looking I suppose to find out more of other peoples journeys and thoughts. I have psoriasis but for a while have niggles in my fingers and thumbs. Not bothered me really and a lump on my finger(knuckle). But around

New papers on PA
There are often new interesting papers on pernicious anemia. I will add them to this thread to keep them all in one place. I'll try to the pick the ones I think are most novel & relevant, but plenty are published every month. To see more, check Google Scholar https://scholar.google.com/scholar?start=

Pmr for 2nd time!
I think perhaps I need a blood
test
for
Rheumatoid
Factor
or such. I wouldn't mind if I was in the habit of running to the Doctors every five minutes, but I am most certainly not and it is very hurtful for her to say it is all in my mind so to speak. I am hoping to see another Doctor next week.

Dry eye syndrome - and castor oil!
Some weeks ago someone posted they were using castor oil for dry eyes. I was rather sceptical that that was a good idea - it sounded as if they were putting it IN their eyes. Anyway - today I got a notification of this study of castor oil as a potential natural remedy for dry eyes: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com
