In turmoil
Dear everybody - I am here to offload - forgive the (possible) long post. I was diagnosed, a year ago, with moderate copd. I have coped well - not having much in the way of exacerbations and able to go about my usual daily routine, with only occasional SOB. It has, however, been a difficult year.

Hello
Well this is a very pleasantly populated little forum. All credit to you people for giving this space great community spirit and loving- kindness. I had a bout of pleurisy 15 months ago on top of chronic bronchitis. Then I got the CB again 6 months ago, and it lasted on and off for 3/4 months. Went

Hi there everyone. I have seen many references on this forum to Lung Function Test Results and thought I had picked up some sort of understanding of this and that, but now that I have the results on paper of my test taken in the Sleep & Respiratory Laboratory at the hospital today, I haven't a clue

Lung Doc Visit....
Just got back from a visit with my lung doctor and found my FEV1 was up 2 points to 30; this after having started daily intake of CoQ10 (100 mg) and regular exercise doing yard work and the such. In addition, we found that I was supposed to be, and he supposed I WAS, on albuterol as a rescue measure

First check up since diagnosis
In April after nasty chest infection, I had CT scan and Spirometry test and came away with diagnosis of COPD (emphysema and chronic bronchitis) was advised to ditch the cigs, which I did and that would help slow down the decline in lung function. It wasn't too bad Fev1 67% Since then I've done the pulmonary

Why do FEV1 numbers fall?
WHY. Six months ago I had my pulmonary testing done, and my FEV1 was 45%. This time when I was tested by same doctor my FEV1 was 37%. It was the same with all the other lung function testing; all the test results were lower than six months ago. I have not smoked in over a year. I walk at least twice

I need help understanding FEV1/FVC
I was diagnosed with mild COPD a year ago. I've just had my third spirometry test. My FEV1 is still in the normal ranges but has declined by 6% over a years time. My FVC has declined by 12% over a years time but still in the normal ranges also. I brought up this decline to my nurse and she stated that

Anyone with "normal" FEV1 staged at moderate emphysema?
Hi everyone! I had my first visit to a respiratory specialist today and I'm even more confused. I thought staging was based on PFT results. With an FEV1/FVC % of less than .70 and an FEV1 95% predicted I thought pointed to mild emphysema. Though when the specialist put up the CT scans from May 2013

Hi I've been away from the forum for a while and had problems with my email so have had to create a new login - my old username was KaylaCP. I've had a lot of trouble with poorly controlled asthma and have had several admissions over the last six months. I was diagnosed as a child, had very severe asthma

numbers, do they add up
sats 99-100% with no drop in exertion, good air entry throughout his chest with no added sounds, spirometry test showed fvc 2.68 (62% predicted ) and the fev1 of 1.26 (36% predicted ) that's what my GP gave me a copy of my test from last week. the consultant said that I have COPD because of smoking

An update, two and a half years on.
As some of you know, back in February 2012, I had 3 Pulmonx valves fitted to the upper lobe of my right lung, as a means to achieve a reduction in lung volume. The op was an enormous success, giving me a huge increase in my capacity to live a life. Basically my FEV1 increased from 16% to 32%. I've written
