Dialysis vs. Transplant Survival Rates
My father (age 74) is in the process of starting peritoneal dialysis. While he has had high blood pressure for most of his adult life and developed type II diabetes around 10 years ago, he has been living a pretty active healthy lifestyle. I am considering offering to be a live donor and am trying

I injured my fistula, it's clotted, do you recommend having it removed?
I had my transplant a year and half ago but I haven't used this fistula since 2005 because I was on peritoneal dialysis. I was working out with my usual routine but I added a little extra weight and more sets then two days later we had a work day at my church then that night I noticed pain in my upper

I pulled this article from my research and thought I'd post it here to clarify some concerns people may have. If anyone ones the original location and any links it has please go to http

Milestone!
Hello all! I hope everyone is doing well. As some of you know, I'm a peritoneal dialysis patient and started dialysis 4.5 months ago. My Dialysis team has been encouraging me to get out and do things, which I've been managing to do by taking walks and running errands for my parents. I haven't spent the

CLINICAL TRIALS?
I have heard that clinical trials exist for experimental devices that can be worn on the body of a dialysis patient that will do the job of the big machines (I do not know whether it is under the heading of "hemo" or "peritoneal" dialysis, but I would *think* it makes sense (and less dangerous) if it

Peritoneal Dialysis
I would just like to share my experience with peritoneal dialysis. If you haven't read my previous post introducing myself, here a shorter version. I started off with emergency hemodialysis due to high blood pressure. Once my blood pressure was stabilized I was able to get my surgery for my catheter

Hi Kidney Patients!
I'm a 56 year-old man arrived at stage 5 due to Polycystic Kidney Disease. I was in denial as my GFR dropped over the years. In hindsight I wish I'd done more to preserve my remaining kidney function--not sure if it would have helped with PKD but I'll always wonder. But I have a pretty good life even

To My Fellow Americans
I'm currently looking at all types of dialysis so that when I have to choose one I can make an intelligent, informed choice. The article below was sent to me yesterday and if you are or believe you may have to be on dialysis this seems to be mandatory, required reading. I copied this post from the e-mail

Wondering about Social Life in HD Centers
Hi All! I am 64-year-old man with a long history of dealing with CKD and dialysis. I started doing peritoneal dialysis in 2005 and continued until I got a transplant in 2009. I think I was probably lucky that I didn't have to wait longer. My kidney has been holding up, but my eGFR has been hanging around

Peritoneal dialysis
I am new to this site, hello! I am 65 years young, have been on peritoneal dialysis for a year and a half. I chose peritoneal over hemodialysis as I feel more normal and not wiped out after treatment. Getting a good night's sleep has been a challenge, seem to wake up every 2-3 hours. Just had to
