Postural Drainage

Do lung clearance techniques , Postural drainage. Use an aerobika device etc . I always nebulise Salbutamol before starting the nebulised Colomycin I'm using my inhalers so much because of the chest tightness that I feel shaky.

Doing own postural drainage together with lung slaps, helps, but can’t reach all areas!

He suggested two puffs of my Atrovent inhaler 15 minutes before my two postural lung drainage sessions. I find that the inhaler traps mucus whereas without the inhaler I get a lot out. So I don't use the inhaler for my morning session, but I do for the evening session.

The consultant at the Royal Brompton said use the Atrovent inhaler twice, 15 minutes before the postural lung drainage, which I do. I stopped taking carbocisteine capsules as they might have been causing diarrhea, although it's difficult to know what triggers what with so many 'aids.'

Nothing seems to help - postural drainage, ACBT, drinking lots of water. So thought I’d contact respiratory nurse for advice and also thought I’d reach out for support to others who know what’s it like.

I have severe brochiectasis Postural drainage 3 times a day for 45 minutes. Although it clears my lungs I still get sputum being produced on the left lung which makes me cough even when sitting. Brown inhaler does not work. It is for Asthma. Aerobika is to loosen sputum. No good.

I use it for twenty minutes and it seems to compare to postural drainage for clearing mucus. However, I noticed about four weeks ago that I can drink far more water.

I’ve done my own postural drainage for many years, learnt more about it when had operation for something else then saw physio at my GP surgery for short session to ensure doing it properly.

I was doing very little exercise and no percussion/postural drainage due to mobility so I'm amazed how well I managed to stay. Consultant did say sometimes chest conditions can improve during pregnancy and that seemed to be the case for me, it definitely didn't get worse.

I do the active breathing cycle as well as postural drainage on a night. I also clean out my sinuses twice a day using a sinus rinse which I think helps my chest as it reduces the post nasal drip. I would love to hear what everyone else does or even some tips. Best wishes Danni

He helps with my postural drainage, drives me anywhere I want to go, does all manner of little jobs around the home and keeps me sane. Then I've got a son who lives locally with his wife and three children and a daughter who lives 400 miles away with her husband and two children.

Since then I have managed pretty well with just 15-20 postural drainage every night, and around 1 infection a year that clears up quickly with antibiotics. However this year has been quite bad. I got an infection back in March while away at a conference and it took me a few days to get antibiotics.

Also I have my postural drainage device and my neil med rinse for my sinus at home so I will work really hard at clearing lung secretion. I thought I would get better lung drainage in my own home but a caring doctor the nursing care and resting would have been heaven.

If bronchiectasis has developed, a daily pulmonary toilet regimen (chest physiotherapy and postural drainage) may be needed to mobilize the secretions from the lungs and bronchi and make them easier to cough up.

Excessive sticky mucus which is so difficult to shift without doing huffing, postural drainage, physio (hubby does this thankfully) and take my meds. I have recently started with nebuliser saline 9% solution which helps to moisten lungs - I think it helps.

If so, how have you found it, has it been better than postural drainage or equally as good?! Have you found that you need to do both forms of physio to get your chest going better?!

Hi Everyone Was diagnosed with bronchiectasis about a year ago, and was given some postural drainage exercise by a very young and inexperienced physio. (I have severe osteoporosis so could not get someone one to 'thump' me as well.)

or has in the past been shown the Postural Drainage technique? Have a great day :)

I have also read a bit about postural drainage and think I will give this a go on him. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. Denise
