Paclitaxel
Are there any alternatives to
Paclitaxel
? Should we be worried that she is only getting half the chemo drugs that are a standard treatment?. I did a little research lastnight and found nab-
paclitaxel
. Is that a viable alternative to
paclitaxel
on the NHS?

Anisina works with standard chemo to kill cancer cells 20 times faster
This a shorthand term to describe a family of drugs that embraces mainly the taxanes (
paclitaxel
, docetaxel, Abraxane) and vinca alkaloids (
vincristine
, vinblastine, Vineralbine) and which work by blocking the ability of cells to divide (mitosis).

Fluid in legs
I'm on my third line of chemo - weekly
Paclitaxel
! For over a month now my right leg has been swollen, in fact very puffy if I don't lie down with my leg up. There is a limit to the amount of time I want to spend horizontal.

Good News from ONC - It worked!!!!!
I had a successful surgery on July 30 followed with six lots of
paclitaxel
/carboplatin, Avastin continuing. (Stage 4 OC) Pre chemo I had a spot in the liver they were not sure about - I had an existing liver cyst and it was not clear whether the spot was pre-existing or cancer related.

Third time lucky?
Now we are into autumn the cancer is still active causing more pleural effusion so I am now on
Paclitaxel
alone weekly for 18 weeks. Feeling a bit fed up but still hoping that this time it will give me a bit of time off in the spring. Fingers crossed everyone. Best wishes Pat

Cyclophosphamide
I could work through the approved menu first which would include weekly
paclitaxel
or gemcitabine. Or go for the trial if CT scan shows progression. I look forward to hearing from you. Maureen

TNBC and recurrence
I had 4 Epirubicin + 4
Paclitaxel
chemo cycles. A PET scan at the time of surgery had not revealed any metastases. With TNBC, the sceptre of recurrence always looms large. A few studies about aspirin, taurine and turmeric have purportedly shown some beneficial activity in this respect.

TOTALLY PERPLEXED
I am currently on Carboplatin only, he said I would be better with
Paclitaxel
and then maybe Avastin. I chose one only to start as I did not feel well enough for the two. We have agreed to review after my third chemo and scan, and then maybe extend the chemo.

Chemo
Also with regards to the
Paclitaxel
chemo, that dose is decided in accordance with my height. As I am quite tall, for once in my life, wish to be smaller. All quite perplexing really, would be interested in others thoughts on this x

My oncologist said I am allergic to paclitaxel as had a rash next day after 2nd chemo , how does she know its not carboplatin
I have recently been diagnosed with stage 3 OC and have had 2 cycles of carboplatin and
paclitaxel
. Has anyone else had this happen? Very scared as do not like thought I could be allergic to other chemo.

Scared
I have just had my third chemo of
paclitaxel
and carboplatin and they are scanning me in two weeks. They are planning to operate, a full hysterectomy, plus removal of omentum appendix and whatever bit of bowel is damaged too.

Fantastic Chemo Response - Was it the Curcumin?
She was then started on
Paclitaxel
/Carboplatin (PC) chemo; we persuaded her oncologist to sanction our use of Curcumin at the same time (having read great things about this ingredient of the curry spice, Turmeric, on the internet).

To trial or not to trial - that is the question!
The trail that they are offering me is weekly
paclitaxel
with OSI-906 drug!? ~Apparently this drug acts by blocking the activity of a receptor protein called the Insulin-like Growth Factor (IGF) receptor which is important for the growth and spread of cancers.
