RLS, tramadol and the opiate epidemic.
I wish we could start a movement promoting opiates for RLS. John Hopkins University states that "Dr. Willis (as in Willis-Ekbom diesease) in his description of this disease in 1685 also reported on the benefits of opiates for treating the symptoms. Nightwalkers Magazine from the RLS Foundation and opiates
There was a great article from the latest issue of Nightwalkers which is the quarterly journal from the Restless Legs Syndrome Foundation. They were describing some of the studies on opiates and RLS. There was lots of information on the ramifications of using opiates like oxycodone and methadone for

It’s back!
I got up at 4.00am an hour or so ago and felt a bit sorry for myself. I have been doing ok, getting 6 hours or so each night. I have Small Fibre Neuropathy as well as RLS so this complicates things. I usually manage to stay up till 10.30pm then take 300mg of lyrica, 100 mg of Tramulief and 10mg of nortriptylene

Saved by Methadone
After years on Pramipexole 0.75 mg long acting , the inevitable augmentation occurred and I got off it with great difficulty. Since that time, August 2019, I have had very little sleep. I have tried tramadol, codeine, oxycodone, lyrica, Gabapentin, clonazepam, MSContin and various combinations. I have

Opiates for treatment

Buprinorphine/methadone anyone?
LONG TERM RLS and PLMD sufferer here. Reaching out to anyone who may have tried methadone or buprinorphine? I could list everything else I have taken for this disorder but I think you would get bored! These medications are my next hope (if I can find a prescriber).

Trying Buprenorphine after methadone
Hi, All, I'm in the process of trying out buprenorphine (Subutex sublingual tablets). I had been on 12.5 mg methadone for 1 1/2 years. It did a super job in controlling my RLS (after augmenting on all the DAs, and finally getting free of those about 1 year ago). But I have developed depression since

EMAIL from Professor Richard P Allen John Hopkins
Dear Mrs Howard I was sad hearing about your travails getting treatment for RLS. Yes buprenorphine is one of the opioids used for refractory RLS with reasonably good results. It tends to get used after methadone is tried, but it is very effective in many patients. We have long term experience

Betrayal and the Horrible Pain After
This started out as a response to Manerva regarding the person who is taking gabapentin and this whole vitamin regimen and wearing compression socks (sleeves he calls them) and my thoughts on it but while it started out that way it’s grown so much deeper and morphed into gut wrenching pain and this

Off Pramipexole
First I want to thank so many of you for your excellent advice and support to others on this site. I read posts almost daily but for some reason I don’t add much... I wrote several weeks ago and explained that I had seen Dr Buchfuhrer after Christmas and he took me cold turkey off Pramipexole and started

Any info on RLS and Chronic Kidney Disease?
Hello, fellow twitchers. My pertinent PMH: I spent 3 weeks in a coma after I fractured my skull in an MVA 35 years ago. My speech is sometimes slurred and I have impulse control issues. 20 years ago, I donated a kidney to my mom and shortly after that RLS started. A doctor prescribed Levodopa, then Ropinole

I THINK I NEED SUPPORT
I thought when I finally found a doctor who would prescribe opioids for me so I could withdraw from ropinirole that things would be better. In some ways they are... I was sleeping some , more than I have in a year. I got a c-pap which is a positive . I still haven't found the right opioid. Tomorrow

RLS and methadone tolerance
My doctor prescribed me 5mg methadone. It worked perfectly for 6 months. No side effects, no high, no RLS! Then, RLS started coming back. My doctor said I was on half the dose most of his patients were on so he authorized me to take 7.5 to 10mg. I'm currently on 10mg. I am really scared that I'm going

Hello all. I am writing about my 88 year old husband who has suffered from RLS for about 8 years....very severe. He has tried everything and is now on 7.25 mg of methadone plus three iron infusions in the past 12 months. . Those really helped but his ferretin levels are too high now for another infusion

Methadone
Hi Everyone. Has anyone living in the U.K. with severe restless legs been prescribed methadone.? If so what are the results.? I ask because I've been on Tramadol for about 2 years (4x 20mg at night ) and they seem to be losing their efficacy now. Any other advice gratefully received.
