Persistent AF and Digoxin
Hi all, My dad had paroxysmal AF but since the beginning of June he has persistent AF. Holter monitor heart rate was between 65 and 149 for 24 hour monitoring. He also had an echo and has got a diagnosis of heart failure. On average his heart rate is over 100 most of the time. He was on flecanide but

Tranexamic acid after having surgery for a knee replacement when I’m also taking sinthrome
Hi all, I am currently in hospital after having a knee replacement. I have two mechanical valves after having open heart surgery in Feb 2021. I take Sinthrome instead of Warfarin, as I was losing my hair, so was switched by my surgeon. Anyway I am currently recovering from a knee operation. The

stopping bisoprolol
I have been on Bisoprolol, 1.25, for a couple of years but found it difficult to tolerate (nausea and fatigue). I have paroxysmal AF since July 2023 and a history of Tachycardia before that. On Flecainide 2x100, Apixaban, and since last week no longer on Bisoprolol but Veramapil, 2x40. After 3 uneventful

Lung volume test
My appointment for my Feno test finally arrived on Friday but I didn't know that it included a whole range of other tests too including a lung volume test. Insurance following CABG

One step, two step cha cha cha 💃 (atrial trigeminy - PAC)
Hey you lovely lot! It has been a while, but I keep popping in from time to time to see what is going on in the AF community. Quick update. After an unsteady (PAF diagnosis ) 2020, I made some adjustments & settled back into life with PAF popping up now & then. My Pill in Pocket flecanide works for

Critical illness insurance refusal
Has anyone had any experience with critical illness insurance being refused? I have paid for a policy for 15 years and after my open heart surgery made my claim, only for Legal and General to say I didn’t have the ‘right kind of heart surgery’. I want to appeal or maybe even get legal advice, but if

First AF episode in 18 months
Hi all, so went into AF 12 hours ago with heart racing over 200bpm. Got it down under 100 with bisoprolol but my Flecainide that I take daily anyway hasn’t converted me. I’ve increased it to 150mg last night and done same this morning. First episode in 18 months but have had ectopics instead. Last few

12 months since my ‘funny turn’
Well that’s been quite the 12 months! Exactly a year ago on August 16th 2023, I had an ‘episode’ that changed the trajectory of our lives. It was what can be described as a ‘funny turn’ and one that made me pick up the phone to the GP. A visit to the Rapid Access Chest Pain Clinic, a CT scan, diagnosis

Going into AF two weeks post ablation
hi. I had my ablation two weeks ago. Yesterday my Apple Watch alerted me I was in AF. Heart rate went to 111 and I took a flecanide. Went to hospital where they monitored me and went back to 74 sinus rhythm. Tonight the same thing has happened again but five minutes later I am back in sinus rhythm. Question

Aortic Valve and root replacement - Story of my journey which I hope will help and inspire others who are feeling anxious about surgery.
Hi everyone, I am now 4 months post-surgery and doing really well. I know there are a lot of people who are due to have open heart surgery that are feeling anxious and worried so I thought I would share my journey with you including the daily diary that my wife and I kept during my week in hospital

Awaiting triple heart bypass op
First thing I know my chiropodist tells me I have an irregular heart beat and should get it checked out. 3 months later, CT scans etc. and an angiogram a few days ago at Papworth and I've been told I require a triple heart bypass operation. Going to Glenfield Leicester as a shorter waiting list I was

Problems with saphenous vein harvesting site
I had coronary artery bypass and aortic valve replacement by open heart surgery. My biggest problem is how uncomfortable my left leg is where they went in to get the vein. I am 71 years old and have had afib for 5 years. I have had 2 catheter ablations and am currently in NSR, but experience ectopics on a regular basis which don't bother me. I recently wore a heart monitor for one week and they detected an episode of complete heart block lasting a few seconds. I believe
