How is a patient’s T4 and T3 requirement calculated
I know that some people take T4 only and do well but so many have to fight for the T3 they need and one of today’s posts got me thinking because SlowDragon enlightened us on how to calculate levo dosage based on weight I haven’t taken it yet but my endo prescribed a starter dose of 50mcg/day and I’ve

Lump in throat is it thyroid?
Hi I upped my NDT to 2.5 grains early July. Initially seemed fine but for almost 4 weeks now I have felt like a lump is stuck in back of my throat . Could this be thyroid related? I also have Barretts Osophagus & not sure if it is acid related. Out of my mind with it all and never feeling well. Has anybody

Mystified by TSH
Hello thyroid gurus, would appreciate some advice on these new results. Background info, I’m 65, diagnosed with Graves 2007, had block and replace for 18 months, been in remission since 2009. Endo and GPs consider me euthyroid. But I’ve had many symptoms since 2009, main one being fatigue but also muscle

Trial on ERFA/Levo raised heart rate consultant suggest Liothyronine/Levo instead - any thoughts experience on this very welcome.
I started trial on NDT (ERFA) in February 2021 with private consultant. I have Hashimoto’s and for years been on 100mg Levo. My FT3 always in lower range and still had many symptoms of hypothyroidism. So took the plunge to trial adding FT3. The consultant took me straight off Levo one day and on to ERFA

When thyroid forums do more harm than good
You can count on the moderators of this forum to always provide accurate information, and correct inaccurate information in various posts. That is important to avoid spreading a lot of rumours and misinformation. I make this observation after visiting a French thyroid forum. Many members go to Belgium

How to persuade doctor to increase my Levo?
From reading posts on here I am aware that T4 and T3 should more often than not be in the upper quartile of the range for optimal wellbeing. Mine isn't and although I don't feel too ill I definitely don't feel in tip top health. My results are as follows:- Serum free T3 3.8 (range 3.1-6.8) Serum Ferritin

Another paper to consider
This summary paper discusses the effect of NDT (DTE) therapy as opposed to T4 only.

Blood tests on NDT
Hi All, I’ve just had my first blood test results since starting NDT and I’m absolutely baffled by the results! I’ve been taking 1 grain a day for about two months. My results look much worse than they’ve ever looked but I’ve been feeling pretty well! Any thoughts? 🤷♀️

MY HOPE IS GONE & I AM DONE 😔
Sorry. I am feeling quite low and more than a little broken. I have Graves. I have been taking PTU. My T4 vs T3 has never been balanced and my Graves is T3 driven. Apparently 30% of people who have Graves’ disease are T3 thyrotoxic dominant/driven. For 3-4 months I have been titrating my own PTU

Previous post a mess, so I’ve edited. GP phone consultation tomorrow. Please may I have help interpreting last two iron panel studies…
… Comments on thyroid and nutrient tests would be welcome too I have a phone consultation with GP tomorrow and because I don’t know what to make of my iron overload studies I don’t really to know what to ask her regarding re-testing. As you can see, apart from ferritin, which has dropped possibly due

Where to source T3
Hi - I’m looking into going back to synthetic T4 and get some synthetic T3 instead of NDT. Can someone please message me with their source for T3 please? Many thanks

Thyroid UK Telephone Helpline - Last Poll
Thyroid UK want to run a helpline. The helpline would be run by an outside organisation but the people on the telephones would be trained by Thyroid UK in various aspects of thyroid diagnosis and treatment including the treatment of liothyronine and NDT. The people on the telephones are already well

Advice and tips on preparing for first ever (private) Endo appointment please
Hello, After worsening symptoms and difficulty managing the basic elements of my life, I am after 8 years hypothyroid, actually seeing a private Endo (chosen via recommendations from this group). In preparation; * I have already been working on increasing my iron, folate and Vit D levels based on feedback

Anyone know of a doctor/s in Herts, north or central London who prescribe NDT
Replies are probably for private message only and I’m sure someone will advise on that shortly. If that’s the case please feel free to pm me Currently taking Metavive and another brand of thyroid glandulars but I feel the time has come to at least give NDT a go. Any help with regard to finding someone

Can someone comment on results please and does my liver need a detox?
Hi I have hashimotos and am on 1.5 grains per day NDT. Noticed I had really bad brain fog and trying to understand if it is menopausal symptoms or too low a NDT dose. I am 52 and periods are still regular. Turns out my Vit D was very low. Have started supplementing again as I had let it fall away

when to test ?
Hi all,, My daughter (20) has no thyroid - moved to NDT a few years ago after endo suspected she was not converting T4 to t3 efficiently, more recently about 3-4 months- due to problems with sourcing NDT she moved to levo and T3 - gradually tweaking the dose - she is now taking 100mg Levo on an evening
