This summary paper discusses the effect of NDT (DTE) therapy as opposed to T4 only.

I prefer ndt as it acts a bit like a slow release form of t3. I can't sleep on t4 only or t3/t4 combination (synthetic). Ndt let's me sleep close to normally.

Why are they still trotting out that NDT is variable in quality - that is not my experience and Levothyroxine is hardly perfect in that respect but they’d have you believe otherwise. They do not seem to consider that giving as close to what ones thyroid once made could be the reason for it being more effective even if it’s only in our silly little woman heads but nothing those macho scientists can demonstrate as real with their “science” . They also bleat on about the ratios T4/T3 being suitable only for a pig not a person. I beg to differ on that one.

Dr Tania Smith has exploded that nonsense for what it is.

Let’s hope it’s a step in the right direction otherwise.

Thanks for posting.

If the above information was through the Endocrinologists - Dr John Lowe stated that doctors and endocrinologists were paid by Big Pharma to prescribe levothyroxine in place of NDTs initially and eventally levo became the No.1. prescription(s).

'S' in prescriptions is because many patients would have different signs/symptoms yet probably unaware it could be due to swallowing levothyroxine rather than NDTs and it is NDTs that saved lives since 1892 - without the need for blood tests and doctors only considering/diagnosing of clinical symptoms. and giving patients a trial of NDTs.

It explains a lot, doesn’t it.

Many thanks, Diogenes! The tide may be turning, however slowly, to a more nuanced point of view and combinations of T4, T3 and NDT treatments that are tailored to an individual’s response and symptomatic need? At least I hope so!

In the results it states that "the reason behind DTE preference remains unknown and should be inquired in future investigations."How do they fail to understand that the preference exists simply because NDT simply works better for many people than the alternative(s)?

They must be mad!!!!

I care little for the discovery of the reasons for NDT working when levo failed so disastrously in giving me good health. It simply does and the invention of reasons for me not being able to get NHS prescriptions for it has given me total contempt for the entire NHS.

My local CCG supports the "recommendation" to blacklist NDT but at the same time supports a thyroid SURGEON at the local NHS hospital in supplying private prescriptions to the patients who complain too much that the CCG refers to her.

They religiously OBEY recommendations without question but DISOBEY the INSTRUCTIONS of the GMC that every doctor MUST inform their patients of products which they believe may improve their health even if they are forbidden to prescribe them.
