Keto diet good for certain medical conditions
Quote: "The effect of
ketosis
on the mitochondria is one hypothesis for why keto diets could work, but it may not be the whole story. Much of the data on how the diet affects the brain come from research into epilepsy and other neurological diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.

Weight loss and Ketogenic diets
I've seen others be much more positive that you can use
ketosis
with hypothroid illness. They often suggest "Carb backloading" or "Cycling Keto" as the solution.

Low Carb or even Keto why is not recommended with low thyroid - can I control prediabetes with diet ?
Going into full
ketosis
is that worse than a lowish carb diet now that I am underactive thyroid. I do not think I am a great converter of T4 to T3 and I think I understand it can interfere with this. As I write, I am thinking of now of pushing my exercise level as well for pre diabetes.

Help needed....
I was now out of
Ketosis
and in 3 days I gained 3 lbs back. The "new" macro formula my doctor has me on is this:10-30% Carbohydrates40-50% Protein and 30-40% Fat.) On these macros, for a sedentary person (I can't exercise because of my hernia) I am not losing much weight at all.

#1: The Start
After a long, complicated history of no diagnosis, followed by lithium treatment, then prolonged time spent on T4 with no improvement, an 18-month stint of
ketosis
that brought on a brand new host of issues and finally a number of sporadic, botched attempts on T4/T3/NDT I've spent the past week reading

DOCTORS’ ADVICE FOR SAFE FASTING ON YOM KIPPUR (OR ANYTIME)
Fasting for 24 hours isn’t enough to trigger
ketosis
, the body’s “emergency system” in which fat is burned for energy. You won’t lose more than a few ounces from a Yom Kippur fast, assuming a deficit of about 2,000 calories.

Update #5: Back to front
I engaged in a highly restrictive form of
ketosis
/carnivore diet without realising that I actually just needed T3 in my treatment.

#2 Update: Adrenal Testing
As the adrenal issues all began after prolonged
ketosis
, I'm now leaning into the theory of micronutrient deficiencies.

Keto, Eggs and PD Meds
So it looks as if the ‘big push’ towards
Ketosis
won’t be happening. I can’t afford to be on a protocol that blocks my medication so badly. Just wondering if any of the community found a similar effect from eggs which is something of a mainstay in the Ketogenic diet?

Ketogenic Diet Parkinson's
This study confirmed mainly the neuroprotective effect of preventive
ketosis
compared to receiving KD as a therapeutic diet in the lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced rat PD model.

Losing weight
Has anybody noticed more afib when you're in
ketosis
? I can't see a cardiologist until August (Appointment made in April). I've think I'm losing weight too fast at this point.

Help with unexplained weight loss
Seems my medications had pushed me into
Ketosis
which probably is the cause. This came on top of painful cramps and griping in my abdomen. GPs have been useless. Paracetamol to kill the pain, but hasn't worked, so on Co-codamol. Increased Omeprazole to reduce acid, but hasn't worked.

How to Increase BDNF
When you go long enough without eating, your body goes into a state of
ketosis
. Similar to carb restriction,
ketosis
and beta-hydroxybutyrate production could be one reason extended fasting windows can increase BDNF while shorter fasts don’t do it as effectively[43] 9.
