Following the example of   Clarebear I've decided to document my thyroid-adrenal journey on here in hopes it'll keep me accountable, and also may serve some after me.

After a long, complicated history of no diagnosis, followed by lithium treatment, then prolonged time spent on T4 with no improvement, an 18-month stint of ketosis that brought on a brand new host of issues and finally a number of sporadic, botched attempts on T4/T3/NDT I've spent the past week reading... reading... and reading some more. The recurrent thread that runs through all these sources, whether it is Stop The Thyroid Madness, Barry Peatfield, Broda Barnes, Isabella Wentz, Datis Kharrazian, Sarah Myhill, Paul Robinson etc. is adrenals.

It doesn't matter how much T4, T3, NDT I take or in what ratio, symptoms persist. Some become more or less exaggerated, others reduce only to then reappear, I have even acquired more along the way. Just a small browse through this forum tells me I'm not the only one struggling with this, in spite of optimal nutrients and attempts to raise thyroid hormone, so maybe this account can be of use to others.

After helpful feedback from this forum and a lovely friend I have found a sympathetic endo (private sadly, but not extortionate... and anyway, what else am I spending my money on when too unwell to do anything?) who has suggested the following -

- Synacthen Test

- Adrenal Auto-Antibody

- Aldosterone

- Sodium

- Potassium

Tests are on 3rd March.

He has hinted already at Hydrocortisone treatment, which after some semi-successful use of adrenal cortex extract makes some sense to me.

I'm not requesting advice or feedback at this juncture, just an attempt to keep a record of my experiences.

Unconditional love to all those blighted by this hideous disease,

Relentless x

I'm following along as suspect I may be in the same or a similar boat. Cortisol saliva testing today actually. I hope you get some clarity and treatment that works.

It makes sense that if the adrenals are knackered, they won't cope with attempts to improve other areas of the system. I've just received the TUK info pack and Barry Peatfield has written a long article about precisely all this.

I get the idea it's go slow with recovery for adrenals.

All the best with everything.
