HIFU for Stage 2?
I am in the queue to get
IMRT
external beam radiation as my TURP'd prostate not considered a candidate for surgery. I'd have to reach into my own pocket to go with HIFU -- my insurance won't cover it. Anyone with HIFU experience? Is it that much better/safer than radiation for me to consider it.

What is the best way to radiate the prostate in 2016?
Hypofractionated RT delivers a larger dose of daily radiation compared to conventional
IMRT
, and thus reduces the overall treatment time and possibly cost.

Brief intro.....
I received short term hormone therapy, short term
IMRT
and prostate brachytherapy at the University of California, San Francisco, which is also where I work, in the Cardiology Division. I am now 58 years old and PSA is still undetectable. And hope it remains that way!

IMRT only without radical prostatectomy
Other: tamulosin 0.4mg for urinary retention, oxybutynin 5mg for urge incontinence after
IMRT
, CPAP to treat obstructive sleep apnea, bupropion XL 450mg for depression (possible side effect of the ADT?)

Recurrence with undetectable PSA?
Treatment was 79 Gys
IMRT
/IGRT plus 3 years of ADT (Firmagon). My PSA went undetectable in 11/09 and has remained so ever since (<0.015 in 2/16). Even though I stopped ADT in 2/12, I have remained castrate (so much for a hormone holiday!) T =13 ng/dl in 2/16.

My Intro - Ned in St Louis
At same time had
IMRT
(radiation), with 37 treatments. Have had 2 bone scans along the way - both were negative (they were probably premature, but my urologist at the time was just doing what he knew to do probably).

My Intro...
Started with
IMRT
and Lupron for two years. Side effects were not too bad for either. Glad to stop Lupron though. For 4 years after D/C of Lupron; PSA stayed low, below 1.0.

Low PSA with a Gleason 8 diagnosis
I began Radiation therapy (RT) in April, 2009, which consisted of 25 sessions of intensity-modulated RT (
IMRT
) pus 17 sessions of image-guided RT (IGRT), for a total of 79 Grays of radiation. The Vantas did not decrease my testosterone sufficiently, so I went back on Casodex.
