Implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD)

Hi all, I’ve recently been told I will need an ICD fitted, as a precautionary measure. My question is, is there anyone who works in the UK railway industry with an ICD fitted and still holds a PTS.

It has been suggested that I have an ICD. If I do have one fitted am I correct in thinking I will have my driving licence revoked for 6 months and then further revoked if the ICD delivers a shock. If so is that for a further 6 months from the date the shock is delivered. Thanks

hi I have just received a letter to attend hospital for a cardiac device check & was wondering what this entailed as I always had my ICD checked remotely? I’ve had my ICD for 4yrs ….i am a bit of a worrier & was just looking some advice Thank you in advance Mark

I had my ICD fitted 4 years ago now and recently the area of skin directly over the ICD has gotten really itchy. It's sometimes on the surface but when it's under the surface it drives me mad! Has anyone else experienced this before?

My husband had an ICD fitted in 2019 following cardiac arrest. He has AF and inherited hypertrophic cardiomyopathy from his mother. 3 years ago his ICD fired twice at home then 13 times in A &E while they tried to stop it.

I had a cardiac arrest almost three years ago, in February they fitted me with an Icd , Two months after I had what they called a storm , several shocks (20) all on one day , It was very scary, they adjusted my Icd so it wasn’t so sensitive, and put me on mexiletine tablets 3 times a day , they upset

I have a decision to make in the coming weeks and it strikes me that the readers of this post who are the best people to consult whether I should have an ICD fitted. What should I do?

Has anyone else had same issue and maybe found something that doesn't draw attention to my ICD, give some stability to my chest and doesn't cost hundreds of pounds to buy?

Their experience and views have been really very helpful. I had more or less made up my mind but there was a nagging doubt that had been created

just got a letter to attend to a cardiac device check I normally get these done by Bluetooth I’ve had my ICD for 4 years can anyone explain what happens at this check please

Almost two months with ICD/Defib but still struggling to come to terms with it. Constantly worry that I may set it off if my if heart rate goes up unexpectedly again.

Hi all So I got my annual hospital ICD check yesterday &a couple of months ago it had picked up my heart was going to fast & acted to slow it down (it wasn’t) & then tried again a few mins later, I never felt anything but was told it had read something that wasn’t actually there, it hasn’t happened
