Implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD)

Has anyone had problems with being refused admission to a private hospital because of their ICD? I also wondered how many UK patients have an ICD?

Had ICD fitted last Sept and with all those travel adverts on after Christmas wondered if safe to fly with one? I know travel insurance will increase but not clear on what ICD means when planning to go abroad.

I have been offered fitment of an ICD are there any pros or cons of having a fitment ?

Just wondered as it seems to me an ICD is for high BP patients although low BP is just as dangerous?

I had a cardiac arrest in May which resulted in me having an ICD fitted. I'm due to have my annual mammogram for post cancer check & I'm worried about the impact on the ICD.

Hi thereI just had an ICD procedure three weeks ago. The sedation did not work well enough during the procedure and i could literally feel everything. I was crying and kicking my feet but i knew it had to be done cos i had collapsed three weeks before the procedure and spent it all in CCU.

Hi, I was diagnosed with Long QT syndrome and had an ICD fitted a couple of months ago. I'm scheduled to have a Pacemaker fitted in early January and wondered if anyone had posted the procedure to fit a pacemaker? I read one on the ICD procedure and it was really helpful to know what to expect.

As such, last Friday I had my ICD imp,anted on Friday 14th February. All went well and apart from a bit of soreness, I feel fine. Thanks to everyone for their positivity.

Another trip to the hospitals and a new ICD the third one , the same thing happened, it opened again. Then I had to go to a hospital that could do the removal of the leads and the ICD everything, because I developpe infection. It was a tough time.

The ICD delivered an "appropriate shock", exactly as it was meant to do. Trouble is, I now feel rather anxious about travelling - not a specific worry about any particular aspect, just a general fretfulness. Has anyone else gone through this sort of twitchiness?

Hi I had my ICD after 2 HA left me with low LV function. I feel very well and I’m told by the technician that I am hardly using it. Can I ask has anyone had a general anisthetic with these conditions ?

It has been suggested that I have an ICD. If I do have one fitted am I correct in thinking I will have my driving licence revoked for 6 months and then further revoked if the ICD delivers a shock. If so is that for a further 6 months from the date the shock is delivered. Thanks

My cardiac surgeon advised I need Tricuspid Valve repair with latest clip technology but seems that the ICD wire could pose a problem. Anyone has/ had similar condition and how did you go through it. Thank you

He had his icd last year. We married seven months ago. Doctor told us we have 50% chance to inherited this disease to our children. How can we prevent from this issue.

May seem a silly question but still need to exercise with ICD implanted, so can you still do press-ups or does that present danger you may dislodge/disturb the device ?

It would be a S-ICD rather than a TV. I would really love to hear the experiences of others who have played sports at a reasonably high level with an ICD, especially tennis (I play national level over 40s tennis).

If ICD (Impulse Control Disorder) can be caused by DA's - with the associated behaviours such as over-spending, hyper-sexuality etc being a result.
