Anybody out there on
Hydroxyurea
? I have been prescribed this but I'm not confident after the amount of info I have read of its side effects and longterm health problems.

I have had PV Jak2 V617 positive for 4 years and just entered PV study RG7388 for Idasanutlin.
Due to my relatively younger age, my Hematologist did not think a long term treatment involving
Hydroxyurea
would be the best option. I took HU for one month, was intolerant and started moving toward entering the study group for Idasanutlin. I am currently in Day 3 of Cycle 2.

I am on this forum from my son who was diagnosed with ET after a stroke at age 10 . he has been treated with
Hydroxyurea
untill last year when we switched to Ruxolitnib. The later has been less successful at getting his Platelets down below 1,000.

Results from hematologist
He had taken me off of
hydroxyurea
last time because of anemia. I was just taking Jakafi and baby aspirin as I have PV. My platelets stayed the same, 668,000, but my rdw has increased to 30.4, which seems really high to me. My HGB is about the same at 9.6. So now he is putting me on anagrelide.

How long for hydroxyurea to lower platelets?
My mum has been diagnosed with ET and has been taking
hydroxyurea
since March, with her dose increasing to 1000mg/1500mg on various days of the week. She just had her check up and blood results show no difference in platelet count & the consultant recommended seeing a rheumatologist.

Good news!
He took me off
hydroxyurea
which I’ve been taking every day for over over 11 years. I also take 20 mgs of Jakafi every day. I have ET Jak2 positive and PV. Any thoughts?

I’ve had Polycythemia Vera for 10 years. Dr. suspects it is turning into Myleofibrosis
I was prescribed
hydroxyurea
and one low-dose aspirin a day. I also had phlebotomies when my hematocrit was over 42. Recently my hematologist felt like my polycythemia vera May be changing into Myleofibrosis. He took me off of
Hydroxyurea
and stopped my phlebotomies.
