small lump/bruise on neck
I take six
Hydroxycarbamide
capsules weekly, and an aspirin. I noticed this small bruise on my neck about six weeks ago, but didn’t bother about. I got a photograph taken and on the photo the bruise looks like a lump.

should I start interferon?
The result was that I had grade 2 bone marrow scarring and she took me off the Anagrelide and put me back on
Hydroxycarbamide
. However, she also suggested that I consider starting Peg- Interferon.

Worries about side effects of hydroxycarbamide - hair loss in particular
My consultant recommended I start taking
hydroxycarbamide
but I have resisted so far as I'm concerned about the side effects (particularly hair loss!), though I take daily aspirin as prescribed.

Advice about Hydroxycarbamide/ Anagrelide please
He said they may need to overlap with
hydroxycarbamide
or Anagrelide . Has anyone else not responded to interferon ? I don't want to take
hydroxycarbamide
because I'm scared of the side effects and I really am not good with tablets.

follow up appointment
I have been on
hydroxycarbamide
for six weeks and had a follow up appointment today. My platelet count was 456 but now up to 476. My medication was one 500mg mon to fri. This has now been increased to 1 every day I suppose I was too optimistic, the good thing is so far have felt reasonably well.

Effect of Covid on Platelets
I’ve had thrombocythaemia for many years and it’s been well controlled initially by
Hydroxycarbamide
and in more recent years by
Hydroxycarbamide
and Anagrelide together. At the beginning of September I developed covid and tested positive over a period of twenty days.

Need your advice please
I have researched and am looking for a change of medication from
hydroxycarbamide
(which I understand to be a chemo drug) to the non- chemo and immune stimulant drug Peginterferon Alfa-2A. It could be that this medication will suit my needs better.
