Hello everyone - my partner was diagnosedET JAK2 negative in 2009. The early years were difficult as the platelet count was in the very very high hundreds and medication was three tabs of hydroxycarbamide per day. The usual yuk side-effects we all know about, but over the years this has really really settled down, and be honest with you, we have almost forgotten about this pesky disease. Platelet count now stands in the low 300's so we have been pretty happy and just 1 tab of hydroxycarbamide every other day. Just turned 80 years old in July, and apart from ET, no real problems to complain about, but ...... Just had the latest blood results, and there was a very large underlined reference to ‘nucleated rbc’s’. I did the worst thing possible and immediately looked this up on Google - terrified as both, and sent a letter to his haematologist, who now lives 200 miles away from us. The response was 'you need to get to a local haematologist'. So we are in the process of organising that, but we really feel like we are now venturing into new territory - does anyone have any knowledge (apart from Google) about what ‘nucleated rbc’s’ could mean. Thanks in advance to all you wonderful people.

Nucleated RBCs can mean a number of different things. It is not [possible to know what it means in the absence of a more thorough assessment. Since it would appear that your partner will no longer be able to see the old hematologist, suggest that ensuring consultation with a MPN Specialist in indicated at this point in time. Here is a list just in case you have not seen it. mpnforum.com/list-hem./
