2 weeks ago my doctor put me on Ramipril 1.25 as a start in the quest to reduce my high blood pressure.
She said not to expect much reduction and to return in a month; this I gather is normal. As I'm 70 she had wanted to start me on a calcium channel blocker but I am a grapefruit fan so she put me on Ramipril which I believe is normally used as a first step for people under 55 yrs. Anyway it is a low

High Overall Cholesterol but Low Ratio - is this good or bad?
I have just joined and I would be grateful for any help with the following. I am from the UK and I am confused about my cholesterol. My overall cholesterol is 9 which I know is high but my Ratio is 3.9 which is good. My HDL is 2.29 which is extremely high and I thought this would be good but I am told

LCHF Diet for Diabetics- Banning of some Bloggers
I think the proponents of LCHF Diet are pushing too far. You don't have to reply to every post, not you have to abuse pharma companies and doctors who prescribe medicines and insulin. Everyone here is an educated adult and can make choice for himself. Why to rub it in? Let it be. Those who are comfortable

Best strength exercise?
Ive been on a health drive since the start of January, and have managed to lose a little over 3.5 stone. Ive done this by calorie counting (using myfitnesspal) and getting on my crosstrainer. I do 30mins on the crosstrainer in the morning, a 4mph walk at lunchtime and another 30mins on the crosstrainer

Does anyone know why, when one is diagnosed with hypertension, they start you off on a very low dose,
not expecting it to do too much? I've been started on Ramipril 1.5 with HBP [at last count] of 200/101, been told that it won't have much effect and to come again in a month. Why do they do this?

I am 61 yrs old and I am suffering from diabetes for the last two yrs and controllable by taking melmet and galvus tablets. However during previous week when I tried to wake up in the morning I felt drizzle in my head and when I contacted a neuro doctor he opined that this is due to some ear trouble.

High Cholesterol & Thyroid?
Even if I say so, I eat healthily, drink only when at a social event - 1-2 times a month as I have no head for alcohol but on & off I suddenly have my cholesterol in the higher numbers. My GP tells me it is linked to my Hypothyroid problem. I try to use food to combat the cholesterol problem rather than

Waiting for test results for hypothyroidisum as I haven't been officially diagnosed as yet, I'm currently taking 10mg Ramipril and 5mg of Felodipine for high blood pressure, would it be ok to take Levothyroxine too?
