This I would say is good news :) it sounds like they have shrunk - which may mean an improvement in your liver function !!! I don't want to get you too excited but if my husband had grade 1 - I would be a lot happier xxxxx stay off the alcohol and keep eating healthy xxxxxxx good luck x

Varices are graded 1, 2 and 3. 1 being the best and 3 being the worst.

Grade 1:varices collapse to inflation of the oesophagus with air.

Grade 2:varices between grades 1 and 3.

Grade 3:varices are large enough to block part of the oesophagus.

Grade 1 are monitored by yearly endoscopy.

Grade 2 and 3 are either treated with medication or banded.

Stay off the alcohol and fingers crossed the varices wont progress.

Best of luck and well done

I'm really confused to be honest I've not heard from blood tests in weeks though?

If I have varices although reduced with therapy as with gross ascites but how can my liver be recovering if it is cirrhotic?

My short term memory has pretty much gone past the itching now although some days are worse than others, I don't sleep, I have no appetite I'm well under weight and I'm very up and down with my moods and I've started to get breathless a lot so I just don't get what's going on
