Great GP experiences
Four weeks ago I was having big problems breathing. Was given pred, told to come back the weekend if still having trouble. Got an emergency appointment on Monday. My chest sounded clear, no cough, no phlegm but he listened to me, did a peak flow, and said "Right, no signs of a chest infection but I think

Mild asthma? No asthma?
I wonder if other people recognise this: - occasional flare-ups of probably fairly mild breathing problems; often no problems at all when just sitting and fairly out of breath when walking. - flare-up lasts about 3-6 weeks with fits of breathlessness mainly happening at night, rarely at day unless the

Had my assessment today. Will find out in 3-6 weeks if I qualify. Did anybody else have to do a peak flow during it? (Of which recorded a pf of 100)😔 Was very quick assessment too.40 mins max. X

Hi! Despite best efforts I have caught a cold and am already beginning to suffer with shortness of breath and dropping peak flow. When your asthma nurse gives up on you maybe there is something else happening
Timothy! We have tried everything you can’t keep chopping and changing! These were the harsh words coming down the telephone from my asthma nurse who was seemingly giving up on me. No offer of help, no understanding just the pain in the backside patient that she wanted rid of. Can I go back to Symbicort

respiratory allergy?
Hi everyone I am new here and am not sure I am even on the right forum as I dont know what my diagnosis is. :( The doctor has given me a vague ''respiratory allergy'' tag which I am confused by and I don't even know what I am allergic to. I am really hoping someone out there recognizes my symptoms

I normally write on here when its concerning my Mum but today I am writing about myself 😢 So, since January I have various infections (very unlike me) Laryngitis, found out I was anaemic and now just finished 2nd lot of antibiotics for double ear and throat

Feeling blah.
Hello on this bright and sunny Sunday. Have not been feeling "right" for a week now and yesterday realised I have managed to catch a bit of a cold. Sneezing and dry cough resulting in a sore throat. Upped my ventolin even though my peak flow was good (better than it has been for a while actually

Peak flow; wrong technique?!
Sorry for so many posts, but now I'm worried the reason my peak flow never lowers is because I've been recording it wrong. Or at least I think I have? The only way I can describe my mistake is that I breath out using my "throat" instead of letting my chest sink in. Sorry if that sounds vague, but is

What factors can negatively affect peak flow?
Are there things that can make peak flow lower in normal people? For example, lying down, body posture, shallow breathing or anxiety/stress? Whenever I take my peak flow, I have to raise my arm to place the peak flow meter in my mouth, but I feel like this opens my airways a little and affects my results

Newly diagnosed asthma
Hi...I'm 38 and have recently been diagnosed with Bronchiectasis and asthma. Actually I had asthma since I had my tonsils out age 6 and it probably never really left me. I have had treatment on and off but haven't taken anything for the past few years or really thought of myself as asthmatic until recently

How do I tell the difference between anxiety/overbreathing and true asthma?
Recently I began checking my peak flow meter more often trying to catch my symptoms in the act. I've found that the forced exhaling into the meter actually relieves some of my symptoms, as does some coughing from a recent cold I've caught. Even a few days back, I had symptoms of a bad stomach ache and

Could it be pre-eclampsia?
So I'm 30 weeks now with my twins and since about week 14 I've had pain just below the breast bone on my right side and since around week 20 had brief flashes of light but only ever occurring in my right eye, usually when changing brightness in a room but becoming more frequent even without changes.

Asthma 'trial'
Hi, I've been given a brown inhaler following a terrible, long cough. I had oral steroids too which helped. I'm still very confused by the difference in approach between GP and nurse! - I believe this is a trial of brown to see if my peak flow improves; it's not what it should be though could just
