New finding Pesticides linked to PD found. And if you smoke pot1980s they sprayed Paraquat to kill plants !
This area normally produces
dopamine
, a neurotransmitter that allows cells to communicate, and damage to the mid-brain has been linked to the disease.

Interesting news !!
The other molecule, 24,25-EC, influences the generation of new
dopamine
-producing nerve cells, which are important in controlling movement.

To help find a cure, I participated in a clinical trial where gene therapy was to revitalize the injured or nonproductive cells in the brain to produce
dopamine
. Believing it was working, was easy, I was getting better at playing tennis. Even though I was being one dimensional.

Anyone trying LDN or interested in it?
Walking is then impossible until I have waited for more
dopamine
to rescue me. My meds daily have been for a while: Sinemet Plus 750mg CR 200mg, Amantadine 3x100mg, Zelapar 1.25 mg. I am not allowed
dopamine
agonists due to horrendous side effects of
dopamine
agonists.

"Too skinny" . . Protein - Good or Bad?
I have read that PD patients should eat a low protein diet to help w/ the
dopamine
levels in the body. Is this the same for 'protein supplements'? How about 'Whey' protein? I'm looking to add some weight, I've lost 12 pounds of muscle.

Another promising find again !!
Schneider and his team found that animals with an experimentally induced form of Parkinson's disease and administered GM1 had significantly higher levels of
dopamine
in their brains and less loss of
dopamine
neurons than animals that did not receive GM1.

What does too much Dopamine do to your system?
That is why I go a little nuts when I see how high the doses of some of the
dopamine
meds on this site and others. Too much
dopamine
is as dangerous as too much iron, or iron overload. And,
dopamine
"conducts" the iron through our veins.

Case study - an update. (might be of interest to "new" sufferers)
Have tried the usual
Dopamine
medications. ( Mirapexin, Neupro patch and Requip ) All showed varying degress of success in reducing movements during sleep but all left me feeling as tired during the day as when I was on zero medication.

Chapter 5 - Part of your brain is missing.
Jackie explained that the Ropinerole which I had been prescribed was not a synthetic
dopamine
but instead was a "
dopamine
agonist " which was fooling my body to believe it was getting the
dopamine
that it needed.

The a-Syn clumps caused progressive loss of
dopamine
neurons in the connected substantia nigra region of the brain. This finding was accompanied by reduced
dopamine
levels in the neurons of the striatum, which cause the movement disorder in Parkinson's patients.

Is a DBS operation even remotely possibly useful to treat RLS
SInce PD and RLS have some commonality in the form of
Dopamine
defficiency, I was wondering if a DBS sysrtem may be applicable for RLS too?

If it only takes 24 - 48 hours for nicotine to leave your body, why would I want to use NRT?
This causes the nerve cells to become more active and leads them to releasing a chemical messenger called '
dopamine
' at the other end of the nerve. This
dopamine
acts as a 'chemical reward' or 'teaching signal'.

I got diagnoses with pd, about a year and a half ago.
I went to the neurologists last week and he said he believes I have DRD,
Dopamine
-responsive dystonia , not pd. I am not sure if I should get a second opinion. My walking is very poor and my mouth grips tightly.. Does anyone have this or should I get a second opinion?

New findings !!
Current Parkinson's drugs are precursors of
dopamine
that are then converted into
dopamine
by cells in the brain. The flip side of
dopamine
dearth is
dopamine
hyperactivity. Heroin, cocaine and amphetamines rev up or mimic
dopamine
neurons, ultimately reinforcing the learned reward of drug-taking.
