Trying to determine the right pace for tapering use of Neupro
I have started my second attempt at withdrawing for a
dopamine
agonist. This time Neupro. The first attempt was Mirapex.

Dragging a millstone up a mountain. RLS blind spot, patient’s apparently don’t know best.
He has written to my GP with the results of the tests he ha carried out and confirms I’m suffering severe RLS and augmentation due to the use of
Dopamine
Agonists prescribed years ago through my GP.

Looking for some guidance please
I later learned that I had likely run into the augmentation of my
dopamine
agonist drug. August last year, my doctor prescribed gabapentin with a plan to reduce pramipexole and ramp up the gabapentin to up to 1800 mg over the course of a few weeks.

Success (I hope) with Gabapentin
So it seems that my
dopamine
receptors may not be completely damaged as I thought. I never took more than 0.09mg mirapexin for the last 5years and have stopped taking it for at least a month before starting the gaba.

Citicoline: "patients treated with citicoline experienced a significant worsening 45 days after the medication was discontinued". Updated.
Additional Detail What citicoline does is to improve the efficiency with which the brain converts levodopa into
dopamine
. It enabled me was able to reduce my levodopa dosage from baseline to something less. It does not treat the underlying disease process as far as I know.

update from Ruffabug (End of life plan)
After reading your replies I decided not to try to reduce the
Dopamine
Agonist Receptor drugs. I emailed my Neurologist and sent him a link to the Mayo Clinic algorythm. I then asked him if I could go ahead with the following plan.

Bad RLS.
He told me that the
dopamine
agonists were very strong drugs and he didn't want to put me on them at the age of 37. I told him about augmentation which he had never heard of. He recommended that I grin and bear it (far easier said than done!!).

Researchers Develop "Two-Headed" Drug to treat Parkinson's Disease
Current Parkinson’s medications replace the
dopamine
that’s depleted as neurons responsible for producing the neurotransmitter are lost due to an accumulation of alpha-synuclein.

Long term Ropinirole update
If I’m having symptoms then I try get an adrenaline /
dopamine
kick, which can sometimes stop them in their tracks temporarily (long enough to get to sleep). I sometimes watch my (racing driver) son’s races back, or possibly seek another natural high.

Dyskinesia question
In other words, are they both just a response to fluctuations in
dopamine
levels, and whether you experience one or the other (or both?) is just by chance, or is the difference in timing related to other factors? I'm sorry if that's a dumb question.

Help - kindling?
As described in my other posts, my
dopamine
agonist withdrawal is awful. I suffer from DAWS, and I've done several stays in an hospital neurology service, and they are doing their best to help me, but something is awfully wrong. I got out of the hospital the day after yesterday.

I just had an interesting thought and inquiry about the relationship between specific neurotransmitters like
dopamine
and norepinephrine as a relates to very long chain, fatty acid metabolism, in peroxisomes. Surprisingly, there is a bit of a link, but it’s not clearly understood.

Facing thyroid surgery?
Some months later (levels of thyroid hormone still within range) I've just stumbled on the fact that there are two hormones produced in the brain called
dopamine
and serotonin.

The problem with Buprenorphine, BTBD9 and serotonin syndrome
Adenosine regulates
dopamine
and glutamate and as we know, these excitatory neurotransmitters are also at the heart of RLS. The problem with Buprenorphine is that it acts very much like coffee.

Aspen Neuroscience Granted Fast Track Designation
By the time of diagnosis, it is common for people to have lost the majority of cells that make
dopamine
in the brain. To date, there is no disease-modifying therapy that can stop, replace or prevent the loss of
dopamine
neurons or slow the progression of PD.

Case report: Levodopa challenge test is important in identifying dopamine-induced freezing of gait in patient with Parkinson’s disease
female PD patient complicated with
dopamine
-induced FOG, which was identified during levodopa challenge test. Her symptoms were alleviated after adjusting the medication. https://www.frontiersin.org/journals/human-neuroscience/articles/10.3389/fnhum.2024.1464152/full#SM1

Duration of dopamine agonist withdrawal symptoms?
I stopped Mirapexin extended release 0.26mg 12 days ago, and my withdrawal symptoms are a nightmare and getting worse and worse. How long should it last? When can I hope to be better ?

I found an answer!
I love this
dopamine
high (prob some other hormones too). But I cant rely on it coming from men online or attention etc. How the hell do u get
dopamine
in other ways? Obv from chocolate 😆 which is usually my downfall too. But I cant even say when I last ate some since this new fixation???

Benfotiamine In The Mix For PD Again?
via%3Dihub Here is a relevant study quote :
' The results demonstrated that treatment with BFT ameliorated MPTP-induced disorders in behavior, body balance, and
levels in the mid-brain. Among the post-treated groups, a high dose of BFT was the most effective treatment.

Clinical severity in PD is determined by decline in cortical compensation
It was already known that in Parkinson's disease, the cells in the brain that produce
dopamine
slowly disappear. Therefore, patients are given extra
dopamine
as a medicine. But only a limited link has been found between the loss of those cells, and the degree of complaints in Parkinson's.
