impossible decision to make
I have been told that a “tricky and risky”
colostomy
and proctectomy are my only options and that they are “elective” surgeries. I am almost 70 yrs old and fear that these surgeries will cause me to lose a level of independence and more complications.

Hi Everyone, I'm new to this but so glad I found it. Thought I'd introduce myself....no point in holding back!
It had narrowed to the point that I was at risk of Bowel Obstruction so I was told, 'When you can't stand the pain any longer come back & they would have to fit a
Colostomy
Bag'.

Seeking advice about starting my Ovarian Cancer journey
He also discussed possible intestinal surgery and
colostomy
reversal. I am a little confused about when the biopsy would be done and will ask about that on the next visit. I guess this is part of what is called "staging"?

Bleeding
For those people who worry about stopping their anticoagulant for medical procedures in case they have a stroke maybe my experience might reassure them. All drugs have a half life so the amount of time you have to stop before a procedure is calculated taking this into account. For the "bans" it is

Can I opt for a removal of colon stump?
So, the
colostomy
is a true blessing. Now I can go about town without worries. My question is: Doctor said that in 6 to 8 months they want to reverse it. I don't want that!!! I'd rather have the ostomy. But, I hate that the stump leaks at times,.

Squamous Cell carcinoma of the Rectum
From what I'm reading on the internet, it looks like the treatment is to remove the anus and Rectum and create a
colostomy
. I'm pretty down about this and am finding it hard to stay positive. Any support would be appreciated. Many thanks in advance

staples coming out from the colectomy stump!
I had a
colostomy
due to CT scan showing holes in my colon and abscesses on the wall behind. I began to have clear fluid leaking from the stump like a running faucet! I told the surgeon about it and he simply shrugged his shoulders and offered no advice. The leaking fluid stopped for a month.

Doctor didn't see the holes in my colon!
Now I have a
colostomy
. How in the heck could the first doctor - and the second one for that matter - have missed the abscesses and holes??? Then, when I went to the surgeon for a follow-up, I complained about the heavy mucus discharge and he gave me absolutely no advice.

This will be reversed back to a
colostomy
in the near future. It left me losing electrolytes and becoming very unwell in October. I am on Iv magnesium three times a week at home .

Follow up on RILP
Once the leg pressure was released the pressure went into my intestinal tract and I ended up with a perforated sigmoid colon that required surgery ending up with a
colostomy
. Also developed a fistula that continues to be an issue.

I have a stoma since birth from hirshprungs that left me with a permenant
colostomy
. I have been told surgery for the stoma 23 years later as it had started retracting in 2014 but nobody would help. My skin has also seperated from the stoma also leaving a large wound.

Stuck!- Now Surviving on an All Clear Liquid Diet.
Hey all, I just wanted to post an update on my personal Colon Cancer Stage 4 journey. Things have taken a very strange and not good turn for me. I truly am very Worried and Concerned about the refusal of local Drs. to put a Stent into my Colon -(they all say I desperately Need!), so that I can go on

Life After Colectomy/Colon Resection Surgery
Hello, Could anyone please share about their experience with a colon resection surgery? Changes in urgency or incontinence or pain? What about eating? Can you eat seeds or nutshell, etc.? How long to heal? Thanks.
