Anagrelide

I cannot take hydroxyurea as a have history of melanoma and have been on anagrelide which didn't reduce my platelets. Im currently on interferon injections which has brought my platelets down a bit but I'm struggling with the flu like side effects .

Hello everyone, just need a bitof reassurance I was taken off Anagrelide 2 weeks ago as it didn't agree with me I had terrible palpitations.

Hi I wonder if Maz you could ask Professor Harrison about anagrelide . I have PV diagnosed Nov 2016 and was prescribed anagrelide 2 months ago taking 2 capsules each morning and 1 each evening . My platelets are currently 750,000 compared to 1.3m before anagrelide.

Hi everyone i have been on Anagrelide and Asiprin for 8 weeks, but the last week I have had awful palpitations and a racing heart. Does anyone else experience this. Happy Easter Lin

Hi only just found this forum, I have had et for 16 years was fine for the first ten on hydrea and aspirin but then blood changed and got quite anaemic, doc put me on anagrelide then interferon, these treatments did not agree with me at all and now I am back on hydrea and still not right.

My heamotologist doesn't seem to think it's abnormal and I did mention a change of medication but she said interferon has side effects and she isn't keen on it and I know I can't have anagrelide due to a heart defect .

My platelets have constantly been rising -They are now 1,300,000 My haematologist commenced me on anagrelide 4 weeks ago but platelets still rising She has increased my anagrelide but said she would like to change me on to pegasys interferon but is a bit wary as I have had a large Pulmonary embolism

After 2 weeks of being off medication, saw consultant yesterday and I'm on anagrelide and aspirin. Consultant said take anagrelide for few days then commence aspirin that way if one tablet is disagreeing with me we're know which one it is.

Today my haematologist has commenced me on anagrelide 500mcgs twice per day as my platelets are between 850,000 and 1.03 million most of the time.

Hi, I have ET and in the last year have changed from Hydrea to Anagrelide as I was having problems taking Hydrea after taking Anagrelide I did have some side effects but after a few months most disappeared and was left with very fast heart palpitations but otherwise ok.

Although I have had a lot of difficulty losing weight while being on Anagrelide, harder than when on hu. Anyway that's a good start to my year so I'm pleased with that.

I've been on Anagrelide since mid-August (after 3 years on hu) and my platelet levels have been up and down in that time. Eight weeks ago they were 450, down from 520 three weeks previous to that. I went back yesterday and they were up to 590.

Does anyone know if it's ok to use Voltarol gel while on aspirin and Anagrelide?

The doctor switched me to Anagrelide which he said only targets the platelets, but the red cells did not come back. So, he did a bone marrow biopsy a year ago and discovered I now have Myelofibrosis. My doctor put me on 25 mg of Jakafi 2X per day.

I'm really pleased to say that after 5 weeks on Anagrelide instead of HU that my toes are healing really well, the open wounds have disappeared. They are still a bright red/purple colour and still quite tender but I can wear a shoe (with socks) without screaming in pain.

I found that I could not tolerate Hydrocarbamide but was better with Anagrelide despite side effects. However my platelets climbed to over 900 and was told earlier this year that Busulfan was the last resort.

I have E.T. and was transferred to Busulfan earlier this year when my platelets increased after a period being treated with Anagrelide. Busulfan is prescribed for short periods and is closely monitored and I have to go for blood tests every 2 weeks.

I've been on Anagrelide for 2 weeks now (after 3 years on hydroxy) and have been to the hospital for a check up. My platelets were down from 415 to 305, best they've been since the beginning of last year.

I'm now off Hydroxycarbamide (less than a week) and on Anagrelide. My toes are still a mess. The "oldest" is starting to dry, but Now my big toe is swollen, red and weeping, the skin is starting to split open around the nail bed as well.

I had to have an ECG as apparently Anagrelide will probably give me palpitations at first! 😳 Anyway my platelets were down to 405 - almost normal. The dermatologist had written to the haematologist and said the problems with my foot were entirely drug related.
