Pharmacological significance of extra-oral taste receptors

Every so often, I see a paper which seems odd enough to be interesting despite having no obvious application, at least not in the foreseeable future! [i]Eur J Pharmacol. 2021 Sep 5;174480. doi: 10.1016/j.ejphar.2021.174480. Online ahead of print. Pharmacological significance of extra-oral taste

How much can anti-hypertensives affect GFR?

How much can medication affect a GFR? 62 yr old female, resistant hypertension since aged 18. Take ARBs, epleronone, bisoprolol, furosemide, amlodipine, amiloride. BP fantastically well controlled now for past 16 years. It was under medicated for years by my GP who said it was only white coat hypertension

Chronic Cryptogenic Cirrhosis at age 27

Hi All, I've been lurking since getting my diagnosis of cirrhosis in July last year and I wanted to share my story. For some backstory, I had abdominal pain and a distended abdomen for several weeks which I just saw as me putting on weight due to the lockdown. So I started to make improvements to my

This has left me with LSHF. I have been given 40mg furosemide and 5mg Amiloride the furosemide to be increased to 80mg if needed. Although this has improved the outcome I am still quite breathless. do I accept this or pursue things further? I have to return to my EP on 22nd of March or cancel if I

Multiple health issues.

I was finally diagnosed with a rare kidney disease called Liddles Syndrome after having gone through almost a year of hospitalizations, including one for kidney failure. The doctor that I was seeing had been my doctor since 2005. Since 2015 I was telling him something was wrong. I just didn’t feel right

Amiloride

Hi, Anyone out there on this. I started taking it but it made me wee so much I stopped - I don't really know whether i need it or not as not sure I need a diuretic but thought I would ask here as it is going to take me a month to get back to see my GP for a routine appointment.

Is Amiloride an effective alternative to Spironolactone in treatment of Ascites from liver disease

Hello All, I have been taking Bumetanide (1 mg daily) and Spironolactone which is a potassium conserving diuretic (200 mg daily) for cica 2 years and this is to control ascites that has resulted from my AIH and Cirrhosis. It works reasonably well although ascitic fluid still continues to accumulate

New research treatment?

''Research funded by MS SOc into 2 drugs already used to treat other conditions could lead to the first treatments to prevent MS from progressing. MS causes damage to myelin, and the nerves can be damaged with the body unable to repair the damage. If we can protect these nerves from further damage then
