Is Anyone taking a diuretic?

Diuretics are known to make RLS worse. It is thought that this is a result of the fact that it lowers potassium. Busunsc713 pointed out that there are potassium sparing diuretics. So my questions for anyone taking a diuretic. 1) is it a potassium sparing one - triamterene, spironolactone, eplerenone, amiloride? 2) If not are you taking extra potassium? 3) Does the diuretic make your RLS worse?

I take HCTZ (hydrochlorothiazide). I have been taking it for longer than I've had RLS. I honestly don't know anything more about it. Have you heard of it? What do you think?

I remember it didn't bother you but it can reduce your potassium levels so you might want to have those checked.

I have taken HCTZ for over a decade. It is mot a potassium-sparing diuretic and it has no effect; n my RLS. My internist said that because I eat a balanced diet, I do not have to supplement.

Good point... I was using one (lercanidipine) for lowering blood pressure. I stopped using it to see if the swollen feet would go down and indeed it did stop the feet from swelling.

I often wondered about the possible depletion of minerals as a result of the various medications I was on..

Interesting what the mind comes up with when it is not otherwise occupied..

The mineral deficiency issue then brought to mind the fact that some water filtration systems (reverse osmosis) provide a cartridge that puts minerals back into the cleaned drinking water which to me seems a great way to ensure I was getting the minerals I needed whilst removing chlorine and other nasties.

I am seriously going to explore that option...

I have been on Diovan plus diuretic for 20 ÷yrs due terrible hypertension , caused to me sexually weakness ED etc. also kidney cists by time being .. its strong medicine to lower tension but high side effects unfortunate..i am at 63 male. Through the years no cardiologist change this medicine but added amplodipine norvasc 10 mg instead. . By the way i beleive hypertension hascto be controlled more than anything in a patient. If not it gives you many different troubles by aging.. you cannot toss that off. First emphasise hypertension than others.

None to restless legs , but for sure facing hypertension gave me eg. Mitral insufficieny (leak) due to loose leaflets by the time. So controlling it very much needed more than anything to me.
