Acetazolamide

I've been prescribed Acetazolamide SR tablets as an alternative to the regular tablets but have been informed they are discontinued in the UK. I told my glaucoma specialist the same day and he didn't know this!

Last year, I went to Peru and used AcetaZolamide to help prevent elevation sickness and it put me in Afib almost the entire vacation. When I got back, my occurrences continued on a more frequent basis. As a result, I was planning another ablation this year.

My question now is, 4 months after surgery he is still using steroid drops 4 times a day, although they say that might be what is driving the pressure up, they talked about weaning him off but nothing definite was decided, what is the point of acetazolamide if dexamethasone is still being administered

Hi Has anyone been prescribed Acetazolamide for Glaucoma? If so I was to detonate how you found them and if you had any side effects As always thanks in advance

It started about six months ago after an intensive course of Acetazolamide tablets (prescribed following a bad reaction to laser surgery intended to prevent glaucoma).

I have also been put on Acetazolamide to lower my pressures .. I guess I just wanted to post this to see if anyone else has had the same experience? Thank you

I had this far worse previously when I was taking the acetazolamide tablets.

has anyone had difficulty getting Acetazolamide slow release 250mg? It used to be Diamox, now just the generic one available. I am prescribed it as I cannot anymore tolerate glaucoma drops.

He's also prescribed me Acetazolamide leading up to the surgery. I am a little anxious as he was trying to avoid invasive surgery 9 months ago but now its the only option. I've discussed the upcoming surgery in depth with my consultant and read the literature.

I am currently on lots of eye drops and Acetazolamide tablets to keep my pressure down, it was checked last week and it was down to 14 in each eye. I am now worried it’s too low…. I have obviously now become concerned about everything to do with my eyes….

I had a laser iridotomy in November through the NHS for narrow angles this partially sealed over, I had an enlargement in March and since then my pressures have been high and I have been on the dreaded Acetazolamide and eye drops and I’ve had enough of it all.

Cosopt x 2 a day Pilocarpine x 3 times a day Lumigan x 1 at night Viscotears to help with dry eye at night I’m also taking Acetazolamide tablets x 4 a day thank again

The downside of the meds are the pilocarpine give my a thick head and achy eyes, the Acetazolamide makes me tired (I was previously on the slow release version but you can’t get hold of this at the moment), I also get the tingly hands, face and legs.

I saw consultant last week he prescribed cosopt lantanaprost and acetazolamide I take asthma medication my gp telephoned me and asked if he knew I was asthmatic which he did because he wrote Down my medication she said I shouldn’t be taking cosopt as it’s a beta blocker which is dangerous for asthmatics

I read that after having this you can have a pressure spike and was really worried because after my cataract surgery the pressure went from 20 to34 and I had to take Acetazolamide for two weeks which made me quite ill.

He is using 3 lots of drops in the right eye and on acetazolamide tablets 3 times a day.

I'm sort of worn out with it all, not least as I have had a pretty traumatic time of it with uncontrolled pressures, plus 3 x severe allergic reactions to drops, living with se of acetazolamide, then cancelled surgeries etc.

After another emergency appointment, this time with a private Optometrist I was taken off Acetazolamide. However the symptoms that I was experiencing continued and only very slowly improved over the following 4 weeks.
