Iopidine after SLT

As I am so allergic to most eye drops yesterday I had SLT as the pressure has been going up. I read that after having this you can have a pressure spike and was really worried because after my cataract surgery the pressure went from 20 to34 and I had to take Acetazolamide for two weeks which made me quite ill. I know you are given a drop to prevent this from happening before hand but was still worried. Also very confused as on the form given to me it said you will have to stay for one hour and then have your pressure checked, but as soon as it was done my pressure was checked before I had left the room.I did query this and was told it was allright to do this. The pressure was only 14 and 17 . Just before the SLT they were 19 in both eyes which is the lowest reading for over two years. I am not sure hand held devices are that accurate. But then I was told as you are so worried about the pressure going up I will give you a prescription for a weeks supply of Iopidine. The chemist had to order them so I didn't start taking them anyway to 24 hours later. I am now worried that It wasn't really necessary in the first place and I don't really need to be using these drops that have lots of side effects and could even lower the pressure too much. I would really like to know if anyone else has been prescribed Iopidine after SLT as I have been reading that it is quite rare for eye pressure to increase and even if it does it usually only transistent.

Not in the same situation as you, but I have been using Iopidine for nearly four years with no side effects.

hi there. My pressure went up to 34 after SLT and I was given 24 hours of Acetazolamide and Iopidine. I’ve had Iopidine for weeks previously and I was fine with it. Also, I have spikes regularly and I have an emergency bottle for use at that time. It’s not the worst of the drugs and from what I understand from my consultant, drops won’t make you too low (something to do with that physical properties of the drainage system). It’s only surgery that can do that. For what it’s worth, I’d take the drops.

Thank you for your reassurance. I wonder why though I was given a whole weeks supply when my pressure wasn't high it seems a bit extreme.

Hi i had slt 2 years ago, i did not have my pressure taken afterwards. i continued with my 2 sets of drops for a total of 8 weeks as my consultant told me that is how it takes to settle down. after 8 weeks i was reduced to 1 drop again monoprost. before slt and on 2 drops my pressure was 26. at the moment with 1 drop is around 18 and 19. it is not a permanent solution however it avoids putting many drops in your eyes for however long it lasts.
