Hi
Has anyone been prescribed Acetazolamide for Glaucoma? If so I was to detonate how you found them and if you had any side effects
As always thanks in advance

yes, I have been taking for nearly a year now. No real side effects I can attribute to tablets. I have regular blood tests to check for kidney damage as they can deplete potassium. No problem so far and pressures stable
for me, it was the medicine from h***. It made me nauseous and fatigued. And didn’t really lower my pressure. I was so afraid my doctor was going to double the doseage that when she told me to stop taking it instead, I burst into tears from relief. I hate to be so negative about it, but that was just my experience. Yours may be different.
Hi
I appreciate your feedback as I have been struggling and have just asked my consultant if I can come off them as I feel awful on them. I haven’t had my pressures checked as only been on them for 4 weeks! I’m sure he will say I haven’t given them long enough but I’m hoping there’s an alternative
Thank you
I too was on them for a few weeks prior to surgery and found them almost intolerable. I was nauseous and depressed. Strangely I had taken the slow release dose a few years earlier and was ok on those but they are not now available in the uk. I had no option but to take them Prior to surgery as my pressures had been 65 plus but they didn’t lower it that much with the result I have a lot of optic nerve damage though surprisingly vision is still good.
Hi
Thank you for replying, my consultant has told me today that I need to stay on them until my op which is only 4 weeks away so I guess I’ll have to grin and bear it but if I had to stay on them any longer I would struggle they are horrid 😩
I have been taking the slow release capsules for over 30 years and the main side effect is permanent pins and needles in my hands/arms and feet/lower legs. They do lower my pressures and so I had to decide between blindness and the pins and needles - no contest really.
I have from time to time taken the ordinary tablets at a higher dose (with the same side effects) for a month or so. They too lower my pressures so once again I put up with the side effects. Unlike others, I have not experienced any other side effects such as nausea or feeling unwell. We are all different.
Thank you for replying, as you say we are all different and I wish it was only the pins and needles that I have been experiencing but unfortunately it’s not.. it may be if I have to take them again I can ask for the slow release ones if available ..
Having posted before about drops giving me an allergy where eyes and vision feel just intolerable I went on Diamox slow release a while back and within a day or so all symptoms went, vision clarity returned, very happy all round. Went back to different drops and allergy returned again, possibly my body reacting, having had Rosacea in the past. End of January 2024 I pleaded to go back on the Acetazolomide tablet it's x3 daily now. It is heaven for me! Ok with blood tests, eat bananas for potassium. Slight pins and needles sometimes but acceptable. We are all different, medicine is not an exact science, trial and error most times. Feels like we are all the guinea pig testers!!! Good luck!
Pins and needles and depressed. It was a temporary measure to bring down my extremely high eye pressure whilst waiting for my trabeculectomy. I’d fight tooth and nail not to go back on it again!
If your consultant doesn’t tell you to discontinue them straight after the op, then do check. If you continue to take them after the op your eye pressure could go too low.
Hi, a bit late, but my husband was given these after a pressure spike and it was as if he’d had a stroke. It frightened me to death. I accept everyone is different but I think patients should be closely monitored on this drug.
