I've been prescribed Acetazolamide SR tablets as an alternative to the regular tablets but have been informed they are discontinued in the UK. I told my glaucoma specialist the same day and he didn't know this! I researched a bit , as one does, and found a different version, still with the same active ingredients, called Eytazox prolonged release. I got back in touch with my specialist who looked it up and confirmed it was the same. He is now trying to source them via the chief pharmacist at the hospital.Has any one else used or been able to get Eytazox? Thanks.

Alternatives to Acetazolamide slow release tablets?

Hello RTcottoneyed,
Last year I spoke to TEVA, the manufacturers of Eyetazox, as I too had trouble getting Diamox SR and EytazoxSR and was told that both have ben discontinued. Going through GP, Pharmacist, Consultant, nobody could help and I was told to move to the Acetazolomide ordinary tablets, adjusting the dose as necessary. Not very convenient for me.
In the end, I sourced a slow release version of acetazolomide from abroad in a private capacity and I will continue with that for now. However, if your Consultant comes up with anything in the UK, please let me know as I'd much prefer to obtain them through NHS channels in the UK.
Best Wishes,
Laura
Hi Laura, Thanks for your reply. I'm currently on the ordinary version and my consultant was hoping the slow release version would reduce the spikes in pressures. Already had very unsuccessful operations in my left eye and have virtually no vision in it now. My right eye is now becoming a worry and I really don't want to risk another failed operation. Left eye was a seemingly simple Istent and cataract op which resulted in very high pressure in the op and a massive bleed.
Well done for sourcing your own supply. We really shouldn't have to though should we? Especially since last year slow release tablets were available!
I will let you know if my quest is successful.
All the best.
