I have been told today that I am going to have to have an operation to try and halt the sight loss in my left eye😩it also involves removing my lens to avoid cataracts! There no guarantee this will work so I’m anxious to say the least. I have also been put on Acetazolamide to lower my pressures .. I guess I just wanted to post this to see if anyone else has had the same experience?
Thank you

Hello Bazzer. Do you know the name of the procedure. It would be helpful if you could tell us. This would helpful to other forum members too as they may have undergone the same procedure. Is sounds as though it may be the iStent ?
Hi Trish I don’t know the actual name but it’s removing the lens and then fitting a shunt…the consultant told me more about what’s going to happen but not the name of it😩he did say that it may not work and because he has to do the cataract procedure this can higher the pressure so I’m just keeping positive and hope for the best result I do try and think that things are improving all the time and one day there may be a cure! I’m 58yrs so i am hopeful
I'm not a regular here, but I had a Baerveldt shunt in 2013 (Uveitic Glaucoma, Glaucoma caused by Uveitis due to trauma). I've had a great experience with the shunt, it has allowed me to come most of my medication. I've also had a cataract done in 2018. both operations were done at BMEC (Birmingham Midland Eye Centre), they are fantastic!
Thank you so much for taking the time to reply it’s lovely to hear a good news story and I’m staying positive .. I was thinking about bringing the eye patch back in fashion after my op! 🤣
If you do find out the name of the procedure, we may be able to put you in contact with a person from our Buddy scheme who has gone through the same procedure. You should be able to call the eye secretary to find out the name.
