Friday Flow: An Encyclopaedia of Rope Flow Moves for Future Reference

Well, it is probably fair to say that I and probably   skysue16 have caught the Rope Flow bug. And we thought we can use a Friday Flow Post to write about our rope flow experiences.

I’ve been practicing my basic moves of Overhand 8 and Underhand 8, Matador and Dragon. But I still get muddled when I try to do the Dragon the other way. I’ve also been practicing combining these moves, and yes, my rope and I don’t often see eye to eye.

So the many rope flow videos online promise me of things to come, as I (and hubby) don’t look anything like the elegant dance movement we see online.

But we can tell there is progress.

So this video from Tim’s Gym, a UK based Rope Flower, is a great demonstration of things to come, a quick list or sequence of 33 different rope flows, showing off the diversity of movements that await me in future. It’s a kind of encyclopaedia, not a follow along, but definitely something to be able to refer back to when other people talk about a move by name without demonstrating it.

Tim’s Gym (4 min) 33 Rope Flow Patterns

For me this weekend, I still am continuing with basic patterns, even leaving out the sneak for now.

So how are any other Rope Flowers doing?

And if you haven’t tried Rope Flow yet, why not give it a go? A good place to start is our beginners 4-Day Rope Flie Challenge, starting with this post:

I did a 5 min Rope Flow practice in our courtyard as a warmup to my lunchtime walk and totally confused my GPS! 🤣🤣

But it’s getting there. Underhand to Dragon transition kind of works. Not quite as smooth as I like but getting there.

Fantastic Flow Friday! Yes, I have got the bug 😂 It sounds like you are getting on very well 👍 I love learning new things even though it can be a bit frustrating at times!

Thank you for putting together this post and all the links. Love the ‘33 moves’ video- something to aspire too!! I am finding that I need to keep going back to the videos of the basic moves, to check technique, but sometimes I am overthinking and getting in a tangle 😂 I can do the overhand and underhand but not sure how to transition between the two- I expect that will come later 🤔 Dragon roll is ok one side but arms definitely too high. Tried the ‘Sneak’ but can’t complete whole move without stopping. Forgot about, ‘matador’ so will try that next 👍

I have signed up to Tim’s email newsletter. He sends tips and videos which are very helpful. Have you seen his video about the Cardinal Rule (points of a compass)? It is interesting - I recommend you have a look on YouTube for it. No luck with finding any local Flow rope groups but joined the one you suggested on FB, thanks 😊

Happy Rope Flowing 😀👍

I still haven’t gotten to the sneak, yet.

Will look up Tim’s video about Cardinal Rule. I’ve seen a few but not sure it was Tim’s. It does all make sense.

I think we are tackling the sneak tomorrow.

Hi, found this really good introduction. I particularly liked the way he explained and demonstrated the Cardinal Rule - I hadn’t really understood it! Had a go at the Matador pattern today, underhand I found more tricky. Happy flowing 😀👍
