Changing Room Chat. Week 2. Come on in......  An early-morning walk is a blessing for the whole day. – Henry David Thoreau

Hello everybody!

Cold drinks,, comfortable couches and time to slip off the gear and rest awhile. Time too, to share:)

I have not, this last week, been able to do a lot of running, my chosen sport), but I have done a heck of a lot of walking. Here there and blinking everywhere, including at least 2K in a huge B and Q store. Up and down the aisles, back and forth , looking for things and then going to fins other things, losing my husband and finding him... we got a lot of steps in that day!

I love walking... my Nan loved walking, my Mum and Dad loved walking, and all three ,in their day walked miles, with limited access to bus routes and just walking for pleasure. My Nan, aged 98, was still walking regularly, and going up and down two flights of stairs at home. My Mum... similarly. Good role models for me. I have always walked, and since beginning my running, I now walk a lot faster them I used to :)

So.... thoughts on this!

According to those in the know...the exercise that everyone should try and make time to do for heart health is....brisk walking..

It's readily available for most folk, it's low-impact, and can, with little difficulty, be easily incorporated into daily routines, without minimizing, the many and very significant cardiovascular benefits.

What facts then, do we need maybe to consider if we are going to add this to our exercise routine... or even our daily life routines!

Aerobic activity:

Walking elevates your heart rate, great for strengthening your cardiac muscles.

Easy to do:

Most folk, with little difficulty can start walking, without the need for special equipment.

Tweakable:

You are in continual and can adjust the duration, the distance and choose the terrain, based on your preferences and your fitness level.

Accessible:

You can walk almost anywhere, anytime. Loads of information, readily available, for walkers only, or other trails and tracks, off road and in town or country !

And that is just the beginning !

I am going to put a couple of links here. Get comfy and just have a quick read. If you are not convinced of the merits of getting a walk into your life, then maybe you need to think again!

Here goes:

Take a look and have a think...

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts... and to see who pops in, to share.

Walking, indeed!

Ever since starting running, my walking has improved as well! More importantly, my back doesn’t start hurting anymore, which it used to do after just 10 min of walking.

Such a great thing, and something I have to remind myself as it is so easily forgotten how much my body has improved!

On a sad side, hubby, who has always been ultra fit, said to me the other day that he feels his fitness is going down hill as he was so fit. Whereas I feel, I still have quite a large range for improvement.

This is great news... and so positive!

The running improving your back ... that is really something,,, and yes, you should remind yourself... and be really proud of how far you have come!

Hubby must be feeling it... to see the progress that you are making. and feeling a little less than par. I know how that feels... Mr OF has similar although for different reasons some of those loss of fitness feelings.

We have a new exercise regime planned for the two of us... starting with 30 minute short sessions focusing on arms and legs... he seems keen! We shall see.

<Maybe, I can get him on the Tibetan Rites with me !

Thank you so much for sharing this ! Well done to you!

🍏Well here I am with my tonic and lemon flopped on the changing room couch. The room is spinning a little because guess what … I have been for a nice long walk! After a heavy downpour, torrential in fact here in Leeds, we nipped out. For the first time in days I managed to get all my steps in and some.. … After that there was nothing for it, except to order a very healthy salad accompanied by olives hummus and warm pita bread. Now for a chat with Floss about our armchair trip to Greece… 🤣
