NHS Aerobics video for beginners with Leigh

โ˜€๏ธ This morning I spent a very nice 45 min in a sun-lit corner of my living-room doing aerobics (for beginners) with Laura (correction: Leigh).

๐Ÿ’ป Link nhs.uk/conditions/nhs-fitne...

๐Ÿ’ช By now I know Leigh from her Wake-Up Session, and Iโ€™d say this is a little, but manageable step up from that.

๐ŸฆตAfter a warm-up with a lot of walking, knee bending and arm lifting, she works us through a routine which can be scaled to 3 different fitness levels, the easiest being low-impact. So just right for me!

๐Ÿšฃ๐Ÿผโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿง—๐Ÿฟโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿšดโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿธ Again my arm-leg coordination is at times all over the place, which feels quite embarrassing as it looks so simple. But even in my fitter days, I have to admit that my exercise was solely through a lot of cycling and tennis, with a bit kayaking and climbing thrown in. (Yes, that was me in my 20s, sigh).

๐ŸŽน๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿผ๐ŸŽบ And I never danced either, being in a band, hiding behind an instrument rather than being on the dance floor. I might have seen myself as one of the cool ๐Ÿ˜Ž kids, but my coordination was and still is zero.

๐Ÿ‡ So workout routines with moving legs to certain arm movements feel totally new to me. But willing to learn, and so by the end I was waving my arms - somewhat coordinated - with the grapevine movement of the legs! Yup, an official name, I learned!

๐Ÿ˜“ All good fun and I was sweaty by the end of it, but could adjust the movements to my level of ability!

๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ Another thumbs up for me, although not quite as fun as the belly dancing or the wake-up routine.

Great workout for you CBDB, I am not sure if I could keep that up for 45 minutes, yes I can run for 45 minutes which would be about 6k to 7k the distance I would cover, a exercise workout like the one in that video would be more tiring than running for 45 minutes.

Her routines do include very easy low-impact movements, so thatโ€˜s why it was doable for me. Iโ€™m still so overweight (hypothyroid) that I donโ€™t dare do the more advanced ones. The moment there is jumping involved, itโ€™s basically out for me.

But there were also some routines in the cool-down section on the mat that were impossible for me, e.g. lifting your legs and then lifting your bum (bottom right pic). I canโ€™t even โ€šfeelโ€˜ how to do these correctly! ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

All good fun, so my thoughts are whatever works and gives delight in exploring the capabilities of oneโ€˜s body, and whatever keeps one running, all good in my book!

I still have to get to 7k, as 5ks are still long for me. They also take me ca 55 min. So I am way below being as fit as I want to be.

But Iโ€™m getting there and along the way, weโ€™re exploring what our bodies are still capable off, at any age and fitness.

You certainly are getting there CBDB, I like what you say about exploring what our bodies are capable off, a extreme version climbing Mt Everest on walking to the South Pole.

Yes, go for it. I think itโ€™s brilliant of the NHS to have all workshops up on their website for free. So beside the benefit to oneself, itโ€™s great to support this by doing them. Good luck and have fun!

You're amazing! Is this 'THE' Laura or a namesake?

I think I got the name wrong. Itโ€™s Leigh, rather than Laura. Sorry and apologies to Leigh!

I just wanted to say thank you for posting this. Ive just done the aerobics workout and loved it. I used to teach all this for years, aerobics, dance, Step, zumba but haven't taught for three years and you lose it so quick. I'm trying to get back into it all to help my running as well as yoga.

Thank YOU. Yeah, sheโ€™s great. And I also started running and that pulls all sorts of other fitness activities. Great stuff! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ
