⏰After a very long day that started at 6am in the morning and had a chockablock programme of online sessions, I chose a short little workout focussing on foundational basics of Pilates. It’s in four 11min sections, and today I just did the first one (as I added a specific knee strength workout at the end).
🎥First Part: Pilates Class (Absolute Basics) Part 1/4 (11 min) youtu.be/D9Sb1Zi7AQA
🎥And whole Playlist of 4, making up a 45min workout: Beginner Pilates youtube.com/playlist?list=P...
🧎🏼♀️Rachel Lawrence is a UK based certified Pilates Instructor who during COVID-19 has moved a substantial part of her practice online. Her channel is called The Girl with the Pilates Mat, but what I actually like about her is that she is not a ‘girl’ and is rather closer to my age than many other online instructors. So I feel the name actually doesn’t do her justice.
🦿And one can also tell that she has substantial experience in working within live workshops, and this does make a difference to the online workouts. That experience in the real world helps instructors to know the different ways someone might move wrongly, or all the ways some human bodies cannot move a certain way, and also take account of bad knees, backs or all sorts of different kinds of stiffnesses.
👍🏽So big thumbs up from me. And I like that she is based in Britain, as it feels that my channel subscription supports our own UK fitness sectors.
🦵I have done her Pilates Workout for Painful knees (my write-up here healthunlocked.com/strength... but today I chose the 10min Beginner Pilates Class (Absolute Basics) Part 1/4.
🧘🏻Having dabbled here and there, and tasted various different Beginner Pilates workouts, it’s great to go really back to basics and understand the postures and movements individually. This is kind of a bit like Adriene’s foundational poses ( yogawithadriene.com/foundat... ) but with Rachel and for Pilates.
🗒She goes through basic lying poses and 3 - 4 movements. And the fact that it’s part of a series of four really makes me want to do an episode every time I do a workout, to really understand beginners Pilates in its completeness, if there is such a thing.
💪I somehow also like that it’s 10 min, as today was just one of those days where 45min sounded just too daunting. So when I successfully had done this 10 min session and actually finding that I still was up for more, I extended my little workout with a 23 min focus on knees (see healthunlocked.com/strength... ).
😅So all in all a 34min basics and knee attention. Not quite working up a sweat but very good for limbs, flexibility and knees!
📖So Rachel’s Pilates Basics definitely ticks a lot of my boxes. So it’s worth bookmarking that, especially if you only have done Yoga and want to understand some of the basic movements in Pilates. And for those up for a full 45 min Pilates Beginners Workout, one can play the whole play list of four.
Happy working out everyone!
