IC-Knees: Pilates for knee recovery

🧘🏽 Today my focus on improving my knees was facilitated again by Rachel, The Girl with the Pilates Mat, and her 30min workout of “Pilates for Painful Knees”.

🦵 And boy do I need to work on my knees. As mentioned yesterday, these knee exercises make it glaringly obvious to me that my right knee (and therefore leg) is considerable weaker, something I never noticed in my (Japanese slow) running.

🏃🏻‍♀️ So I wonder if this was a good wake-up call to remedy the weakness before starting on my 5k to 10k journey.

🧜🏻‍♀️ I was actually able to do all exercises bar one. The elegant mermaid like position with lying forwards on the floor and paddling with both legs in the air looks so easy but boy is that hard. One knee on the floor started just to hurt supporting the other in the air and there was no possibility of lifting both legs in the air. So that one I had to sit out.

👏 Otherwise, fab! And I’m Rachel’s newest fan.

😍 I’m also starting to fall rapidly in love with Pilates!

💪 Happy Workout, everyone!

Keep going. Use cushions under knees or a throw if needed. I struggled in beginning- I do ten mins each day e.g 10 min Tuesday (after new video upload) then latter Ten mins Wednesdays and repeat the cycle for remaining days. Over time you get stronger and more flexible x

Yup 👍🏽, did today (throw/cushion) and will build it into my routine, even once my knees are better and I’m running again.

Hmmmm.... I might be able to attempt a couple of those. Definitely not the figure 4 one though, as I just don’t have that much side motion with my right knee right now.

Yeah, it’s an odd one. There might also be a difference between exercises for painful / sensitive knees, and exercises for knee injuries. I did one by the NHS nhs.uk/conditions/nhs-fitne... and that one was the least taxing on my knees whilst providing strength & balance exercises.

👍Thanks. I just spotted Rachel has a seated workout for very painful knees.

Yes, it’s good. I’ve done it and might also come back to it at times. My write up was here healthunlocked.com/strength... so would be good to see how others find it!

Keep those knees safe, and happy working out! 👍🏽👏💪🦵
