I had to put the name of this workout in capitals because that is Joe Wicks, he is THE MOST ENTHUSIASTIC MAN ON THE PLANET!!!
I expect you may probably already heard of Joe Wicks, A.K.A. online trainer The Body Coach, and maybe even tried out some of his workouts! If you don't know, since the schools closed, Joe has been putting out daily (Mon-Fri) from his home live YouTube videos at 9 am for kids and their adults to "do P.E." (that's physical education in UK schools) together at home.
I didn't do this live, but I may try doing so at some point, because I found the P.E. lesson to be a huge amount of fun, and also a really really good workout!!!!
Having only done one so far I don't know if the format is always the same, but this one is 20 minutes long, with 20 different exercises - 30 seconds each, with a 30 second breather in between. There is also a 3 minute break in the middle. the breaks are useful for Joe to read out some of the comments that come in during the live video - and that is lovely because we get to hear that we are working out with people all over the world π
I won't list all the exercises in the video, but I will say that there's a good mixture, giving a total-body strength and cardio workout. Many of the traditional body weight exercises are in there: mountain-climbers (yuck!), squats, push-ups. But these intermingle with exercises "for kids" such as frog jumps, and bunny hops - complete with ears π These are fabulous leg- and cardio- exercises as well as being tremendous fun - just a joy!!! Joe suggests modifications for all the moves, so they work well whatever your current level of experience.
As for Joe himself, apart from being THE MOST ENTHUSIASTIC MAN ON THE PLANET, he is very sweet, clearly knowledgeable and very fit, but he's working out with us and he gets just as puffed out as any of us! Also, his living room is extremely tidy πππ
So, I give P.E. with Joe a massive thumbs up - check it out!!!
I do a circuit of the garden. X40 laps is 4km. It makes me ache a bit too as it is quite twisty and on gravel so lots of new moves on the muscles! Am used to running on hardtop.
I did one of his exercises on Friday morning, I missed them today as just after 9 am I was getting ready to run locally a "virtual 5K parkrun" at the time that parkruns are on in Scotland which is 9.30, then I notice from your post that Joe Hicks is not on on a Saturday.
After I completed my 5K this morning I met another runner who told me he was a PE teacher in the Secondary school I went to many moons ago, when I told him my 33.25 time for my 5K, his exact words were "very impressive" lol, and that from a PE teacher.
Ha yes we follow Joe every morning : I do my own version π with the grand children on FaceTime : my husband is very stressed about everything and we find it a great way to start the day and give us a routine. ( I wasnβt that impressed with him until he did a one-handed press up( heβs broken the other one)
I think this chap is going to get a lot of people doing exercise for the first time roseabi. Kids seem to love his sessions.
That is definitely a minimalist room, methinks a lot of stuff has been moved out for the occasion π a bit like when we shove stuff into a cupboard when people are coming to stay! ππ
I have completed one of his sessions, he is very enthusiastic. I'm also doing yoga with adriene and the odd run. I do see myself as very fortunate as I can still go and look after my horse's and land.
I quite agree the work outs are really good fun and a great start to the day. I did a couple last week and easy to follow , itβs so important to keep fit and healthy at the moment
I had a look on Friday after hearing the kids and their Dad next door at 9am having a great time. Iβm might try it some time. Also yesterday he said the revenue coming through on you tube had blown him away but he was donating 100% to the NHS. What a guy. Take care, stay safe. Rfc xxx
Great review....me and my son do this each day using the recorded sessions! We get very sweaty but love doing it together. My legs are so achy....looking forward to building up some strength. Joe is such an fab guy....down to earth and enthusiastic
Yes, my (nearly 10yo) son and I are in front of the TV at 9am every morning! I have even rearranged my lounge now so we have permanent space for the workout. Iβm very slack with all the homeschooling stuff - but this particular routine has been a really great way to start the day. We have a giggle and we have ached!
So glad you have reviewed this roseabi - you know I'm a fan and it's good to know that someone with your experience approves! Friday's session did consist of 20 different exercises - the two I had done before this consisted of one set of exercises repeated twice( if that makes sense?). I think they were all repeated together on Friday.
As you say, he is SO enthusiastic and just generally a lovely person - a great way to bring laughter and fitness in to our lives during the current times. ππx
Yes, he is VERY enthusiastic! I have done a couple of sessions with the children at school - not all the children were as enthusiastic as Joe or me! ππ€£
Iβve tried out Joe Wicks! Itβs such a great workout and only 20-30 minutes! I did one last week, and did another this morning. I wonβt be able to do them every day but every 2-3 days is enough to keep me motivated and interested. Great for a bit of variety too! Go Joe!
