A little share, Shhhhh don’t tell my Dad 😉.

My Dad would probably go mad if he knew I was doing this but I am very proud of him.

Last January he started going to an exercise class every Monday, he loved it, so much so that when the guys in the the class said they all went to another class in town on a Friday as well he went to that one too.

He is mid 80’s and in 2018 he had a fall. A simple fall, no broken bones but it terrified him as if I hadn't been able to get up in the day they were talking about putting him in a home temporarily as he couldn’t look after himself. A physio told him it was because he had no core muscles and no strength, so he couldn’t wait to start the class when he recovered which took months and make sure he could do everything not to end up in that situation again.

Last week he had his medical review and they are astounded at the changes in his blood work and weight. Having muscles is great for diabetic control.

All levels not borderline anymore they are now perfect. They attributed his recovery from his recent foot infection was so fast because of how fit he is.

His class consists of a half hour workout done sat in a chair and a coffee and a biscuit and a chat with his new found mates afterwards and it has made such a difference to his life. I went to the class last year as yes I’m over 50 so I can join in if I want and it is a great class. Looking around they are popping up everywhere. So if you wanting to start have a look at what is offer in your area my Dads classes are £2.00 a go, including a cuppa.

The main reasons I wanted to share this with you,

1) little and often works wonders, think small for big rewards.

2) consistency is key to the biggest changes not volume

3) make it fun 😀.

Wishing you all the best in 2020

Rfc xxx (one proud daughter)

That's fab, well done to your dad for making such brilliant life changes!

My dad had a triple bypass 14 years ago and angioplasty late last year. They've sent him for rehabilitation exercise classes which he has very reluctantly been going to. If my mum didn't take him, I know he wouldn't go... 🙄

Thank you. I’m glad your Dad is fit enough to be taken to the class, my Mum used to take my Dad to a class after his heart attack 19 years ago, he wouldn’t of gone either. I think he likes these ones because it is half exercise and half social and he has made friends rather than it being medical and scary. Both his exercise classes are things organised for the over 50’s in a community hall and a gym. . My gym has so many things for the over 60’s and at great prices, I am trying not to wish my life away because their stretch classes sound the best but I am too young.😂😂😂. Rfc x

My Dad was having trouble walking because of his balance, he is terrified of losing his independence, I think that pushed him into it but once there he loved it. Good luck trying 😀. Rfc x

Yes it’s a great attitude from him. My Dad believes he is quite active because of all the work he does around the house and he does enjoy a bike ride or a walk from time to time but would love it if it was a little more often x
