I know quite a few HUers already do Yoga with Adriene and like her practices. I’ve been doing them for a couple of years now and since I began running, I’ve found they’ve really helped make me feel stronger. I’m currently revisiting her Dedicate 30 day challenge, and today I did day 22 (side planks! 😳😳😳).
Anyway, there’s a new 30 day challenge coming out in the New Year, and it’s sure to be fun. I know linda9389 and TailChaser already know about it, but who else would like to jump on board and “go live” with Adriene? She’s fab and makes yoga really entertaining, yet still challenging enough to feel you’re getting a workout. 👍
I’ve had to double up a bit on Dedicate as I want to get it done before Christmas, so maybe you could do the same with True? Just have a sneak peak and make sure one’s a gentle one! 😅
Adriene has loads of videos on YouTube, ranging from practices for rank beginners to yoga experts. She also has videos detailing each individual pose, so you could have an explore before January. She also completely advocates modifying poses to suit your own level, so you should be totally fine. Have fun Jacca! 😀
Just try and stop me cheeky!! Already planning my interim sessions as I’m about to finish True. Dedicate looks good apart from that one where you have to stand on your hands with your legs bent in the air...side planks are a doddle compared to that.
Hahaha, yes I agree TC - you mean Crow don’t you? 😩😳😩 I’ve faceplanted enough times to realise I always need a couple of precautionary pillows under my head to crash land on! 🤣
Yes! That’s the one, I knew you’d know the name!! Ouch! Thanks for the warning about pillows! 😂
I did that other one today where you pivot on your bottom with your legs at table top, and I did it without keeling over, so I’m feeling more positive about the Crow now.
I hadn’t done yoga before discovering Adriene either CSMN. My daughters introduced me to her videos and I was hooked from day 1. It’s made such a huge difference to my strength and flexibility. 😀
I will investigate asap. I set out to do 13/14k today but developed a pain in my right knee and leg at 8k, I slowed down and managed 10k followed by a 2k walk home. Hopefully yoga and stretching will help 🤞
I can’t be 100% sure, but I’m pretty convinced yoga has prevented me from picking up niggles. It’s fantastic for gently strengthening joints. Hope your knee is ok. 🤞
I've been following her videos for a year or so now and I love everything about it. I'm not very flexible (very tight hips and hamstrings) so I always avoided yoga in the past but she makes it all so accessible. I love the whole concept of "find what feels good" and feel practising yoga with her really helps me mentally as well as physically ❤️
I used to feel just the same. About as flexible as a plank of wood, but Adriene’s lovely way of explaining the poses and her sense of humour has made me love it. The difference between when I started and now is phenomenal.
It’ll be nice going live with her, knowing that other HU members are doing the same. 😀🧘♀️👍
Great. I have been looking for the last post I saw that mentioned this but due to advanced forgetfulness couldn’t remember who posted it or the name of the yoga teacher. Thanks a lot - roll on the new year.
Well having managed to get away with running (loose term) more or less three times a week since late Feb relatively unscathed I’m just starting to get niggles - at the moment got a uncomfortable ankle, I feel more stretching is the way forward. Looking forward to it.
Great idea! Thanks for the link. I do my own Pilates/yoga stretching must days and occasionally use Adriene but this might establish a better routine with different exercises. And... we share the same name - karma?!🧘♀️
Definitely karma Slinky, it was clearly meant to be! 😀
I do her yoga videos regularly anyway, but I’m never sure which one to pick so I end up doing my favourites rather too often I suspect! These 30 day challenges are great because they work different parts of the body and mind each day. 🧘♀️ 😀
I love her cool down for runners so I am sure this will be great too. Just worked out how to sync my phone to YouTube on Tv so have a decent picture to watch as well.
I've been doing Adriene yoga daily since Sept but this is the first time I am going to try a series of hers, normally just do my saved ones in random order (I do have over 30 saved so it's not the same ones daily!)
Yay SSF, there’s a veritable gaggle of us now, what fun! 👏👏
I know what you mean about being kept accountable - having a plan for running or yoga really helps doesn’t it? Plus Adriene’s 30 day challenges really mix up the practices, so it ends up being a really well rounded workout. 😀
I'm not sure I can commit to this but I'm definitely going to investigate her video's etc further. I've always had a really strong core but haven't had much opportunity to do much strengthening exercises since baby no 2 came along. Thanks for the heads up... I definitely need to start doing something and if it helps with the running then even better 👍 good luck and well done to all those doing it!
Definitely have a look Mum22boys, she’s great. There’s no requirement to do 30 consecutive days at all, it’s fine to dip in and out as you can. The only reason I’m excited about going live is that I never have to date and it sounds fun! 😀
Yoga is great for strength, flexibility and balance - all fantastic for running. 👍🏃♀️🧘♀️
Yay well done JU! The great thing is, it doesn’t really have to be done in 30 days. You can take as long as you like. I just think it’s fun to be able to do it “live” with others. 😀
Have fun, and Merry Christmas to you and your family! 🎉🎅🎄😀🎁
Woohoo SS! A huge HU posse on board now. 👏👏 Don’t worry though, it doesn’t necessarily need to be daily, although as I’ve said to others, it’s fun to go live. Adriene acknowledges that some people might take months to complete the 30 days! 😀🧘♀️
to update....I have tried the first few sessions but really struggled! I am completely new to yoga and feel that the sessions are aimed at those who have some previous experience. I am going to find one of her beginners sessions to have a go at!
That’s a good idea SS. She does foundations of yoga vids too, where she focuses on the individual poses, plus there are some aimed at total beginners too. Have fun exploring, it really is fun. 🧘♀️👍
Just found this post. Have been doing random Yoga videos for a while now, but not on a regular basis. Having tried out a number of different people on YouTube, end up back with Adrienne as I find hers the most accessible and she gives me enough time to get into each pose (which some of the others don't!).
So I've signed up for this. 🧘♀️
Having had a few niggles recently which have interrupted my running, I'm hoping that doing the yoga will help with this as I get back into running again. 🏃♀️
Fantastic news CookieM! Adriene turned me into a yogi 2 years ago having never done it before.
Enjoy joining us all - it should be a lot of fun and I agree, yoga. definitely helps iron out small tweaks and stiffness well as building strength for our beloved running. 😀 🧘♀️ 🏃♀️
I’ve signed up too 🙌🏼
I’ve done a bit of yoga with Adrienne before so it should be good.
I know I won’t be able to do it every day (kids 🙄) but it’ll be fun nonetheless
Well she’s based in Austin, Texas, so if you want to go properly live you’d need to factor that in - you could check her website to see if there are times posted. Personally I simply do the practices on the actual day, not necessarily at the same time, otherwise it gets too complicated. 😀
There’ll be an introductory session on the 1st, then she’ll start the 30 days on the 2nd.
Oh go on then! I will join this plan 🙂 I will try to follow it every day but if work or something gets in the way I will catch up. I hope that’s ok. Thank you for posting this, I needed a reminder xx
Brilliant JaoJao, of course it’s ok to catch up. The beauty of Adriene’s 30 day challenges is that you can take a year to do them all if you want to! Or do them every day, or whenever suits you. No pressure. 👍🧘♀️
So I did Day 1 this evening... at first I wasn’t convinced I was going to remain focused with her accent and the dog Benji putting me off... but by the end of it I was really brought into it, and the doc was actually very well behaved. That shows me! I also felt like a yoga snob, shame on me, I’ve done yoga for many years and when she was explaining the breathing I was like “I know all this, come on, where are the moves, I don’t want to sit in lotus all night long!” - I just needed to be patient. I actually enjoyed it and I’m looking forward to re-learning yoga. Thanks again for think link ladies xx
I’ll do it in a couple hours, just had dinner. Planks are the worst but I’m looking forward to it xx thanks for the heads up. Are you aiming to do one every day or spread them out? I want to complete all 30 in 30 days if I can to get my passion back again...
I think her last sessions and challenges are also available for free right? I like that she has long and short sessions and some running specific ones too.
Sorry just saw this JaoJao. Yes she has loads of free practices. Probably hundreds! They’re targeted for all different parts of the body - and yes there are running specific ones. Enjoy! 😀
Thank you so much cheekychipmunks because of this thread I gave the 30 day yoga plan a go, because of you I’ve been meeting my New Years resolution to focus on S&F as I never did any S&F before and because of this wonderful community on S&F I’ve felt more focused, more supported and motivated to do the yoga sessions every day without fail... completed Day 9 today and my body feels transformed since Day 1, I think I’m just getting to know it better and I am happy in my skin.
Isn’t it fabulous JaoJao? I’d never done yoga in my life 2 years ago. It’s so good for the body and soul, and it really helps keep you limber and fit for running. I *think* I’m safe in saying it’s kept me (touch wood) injury free. So glad you’re enjoying Adriene! 👏👏
I’m pretty sure it goes some way to keeping you injury free because it flexes, opens, strengthens making your body more resilient, it reduces risk of injury.
I think injuries are just down to bad luck sometimes, just unlucky and we simply learn about healing and being patient with ourselves.
