I have decided to put together a mini yoga routine for my rest days incorporating poses recommended for runners.

I used to do yoga many years ago so it will feel like visiting an old friend! These ones have come up a lot in my research the last couple days.

Downward Dog

Upward Dog

Plank

Bridge

Pidgeon

Cow

Low Lunge

Spinal Twist

Legs up the Wall

Locust

Bow

Happy baby

Tree

Butterfly

I do several of these, legs up the wall is sometimes a tree post run, and my planking tends to be stand-alone. Sounds like a good routine to me.

Hey UNM, how long do you do the yoga? I can spend about 10 minutes going through all of these one by one. I’ve only just started to do them. Having done yoga for so many years I also use this list as a memory test, see how many I can recall without looking it up on my yoga book! 🤣

My favourite pose of all time is not on here.. that is dancers.

I don’t hold poses for long... some is more of a flow thing. I think my average session is under 20 minutes. Nike Training Club has one that is 7 minutes long, and I do that a lot.

Planking I’ve plateaued at 3 minutes, still not sure if that’s a physical barrier or boredom though 🤣

After my long run I think I could sit with my legs up the wall/tree forever, but tend to keep it to about 3 minutes. Feels great though... maybe that’s a subconscious thought of at least they can’t hit the ground up there!

Wow you are doing well with all those holding poses! I’ve been doing it for many years but cannot hold a plank longer than 10 secs! Ha!

I followed an app which extended the plank a little each day. Yeah, it was tough and some days I was shaking all over to not quit at 30 seconds... now I’m comfortable in the plank. I saw it as the same as C25K... if you can do 10 seconds, you can do 11... and then before you know it you’re at that 60 second mark.

Exactly same principles. I’m so pleased there is a love for yoga amongst some of us. It’s a great complementary addition to add to a running routine and keeps everything else balanced whilst running is hard on the legs ❤️

Over the week I do two plank workouts along with a Youtube video, perhaps they may help you Jaojao with your planks, the two are

:-5-Minute Workout that replaces High-Intensity Cardio (11.47) with Bright Side

The 3 minute Perfect Workout (with Tom Holland) (3.39)

Try them out, they may help you with your planks.

Thank you so much for doing this. I’m going to look at trying one at a time until I feel comfortable with it. I think that might help me get more used to yoga 😀. Rfc x

It’s my pleasure! Happy to share. Yoga is not competitive, it’s for everyone so long as you listen to your body and are patient with yourself, a bit like c25k hey 😊😊

I think that is where I have gone wrong, I have tried to keep up with a class rather than just learning to do a move properly, you never know I might manage a full session by the end of the decade 😀.

I wish you luck xx if you need any help or support feel free to reach out any time xx

Do not try to keep up with the rest of the class, just like c25k, everyone is on their own journey, everyone has their own story to tell! Or rather their bodies have their own story 🤓

This looks like a great reference list JaoJao. My daughter has taught me a few of them & I remember a couple from the dim & distant. Maybe I can revive those and then build. 👍🎉

They are so fun when you get back into them, it’s surprising how much you remember 😊 I have a little yoga reference book, you can pick them up so cheap and cheerful. Book People are good for these books.
