This month hasn't gone according to plan for me In Some ways.
My running has floundered and I’m struggling a bit.
What I had organised for my strength work has had to change a little as I had to add in all my physio work which will help my runnning in the long term.
Swimming has not been too bad.
I am still on “move every day” and that is keeping me feeling like I haven’t lost the plot completely, it is good to do stretch session or a 2km Walk on the down days, it does help to make my brain feel like I’m still doing something,
I got 11 days in and then realised I needed to be intelligent as well. I’m ready to go again in May!
Active every day in 2020 though so far though. Today I’m running 5 miles with a young athlete. She’s promised to go easy on me and I need to resist it becoming a tempo run.
I think your gremlins around your HM are reassuring to people like me who have only being on this fitness journey a relatively short amount of time, and it makes me smile when you say you “only did” and list your activities, which are generally what I’d consider huge. It gives me hope that I’ll reach my goals... with progression and discipline, and that the latter includes being smart enough to step back every now and then.
Thank you, I’m just beginning to get my self belief back. I think the gremlins stole them and hid them somewhere. You are doing so very well. You will reach you goals, then knowing you you will make some more and smash them as well. 😀.
There are more things to work towards than a marathon, I watched you complete your Nike workouts and happily move on to the next . 😀. All goal smashing in my book.
That’s true... it’s not necessarily further, faster or even more, sometimes it just happy and sustainable... after that marathon one of my goals will be to reduce the running and, apart from the first couple of weeks, that could be my biggest challenge yet.
As some will know my overall physical fitness goals have taken a back seat this month and I am comfortable that was necessary. I am not so comfortable that instead of going down, my weight has gone up quite a bit.
But on this forum I was focussing on my strength and flexibility goal of 16+ days of yoga practice. It's going to be a close run thing but provided I do a practice today or tomorrow I'll achieve it. I also wanted 4 of those to be online yoga classes... well, I've far exceeded that as I felt I needed some fresh input and I'd say most of my practices have been classes. I treated myself to a yoga bolster which I am loving (probably more restorative than strength or flexibility, although it is allowing me to do kneeling poses so probably good for my knees)
First of all I’m a bit disappointed to report that I still can’t do one proper press up 🙁 I am really close - I can bend my elbows now and almost do it but just haven’t quite got the strength. But I’ve been working towards it every day and I can now do 10 knee press ups. I am definitely stronger and will keep at it through May.
I’ve started the ‘get more fit’ training plan on the Nike Run Club app which has got my enthusiasm up for running again - I think I had got a bit bored. So I am doing some speed work and some strength and flex as part of that and have enjoyed it.
I’m ready to set some new goals for May. I’ve been really inspired by how much other people on this forum are doing and it’s been a good introduction to becoming a more well rounded athlete (athlete 😂😂😂) rather than just running.
One thing that needs some attention is my diet. I don’t need to lose weight but I’ve been eating really unheathily lately. So I think it’s time to make some changes.
I hope everyone has had a good month and Good Luck for May 💪
Press ups are hard, I can’t do a proper one. It takes a lot of work. 10 knee press ups is pretty impressive they still use a lot of muscle power. I find that thinking of food as fuel rather than good or bad items helps me to eat healthier, it also helps to give a very varied diet. Good luck.
You are doing great. The machines you are using will be working your core too, so even if you don’t do planks you are working those muscles. I was nice told the best time for a little stretch is just before bed. I go through phases of doing a little routine before I get in bed.
I am pleased with my progress, my daily (well nearly 😉) strength work is going well. I am doing 10 standing press ups, 10 bent leg press ups and plank for 15 secs x4. A proper, full press up still impossible! My wall chart in the kitchen really helps motivate me and I feel good ticking off the exercises. I hope to increase the number of repeats and try a 20 second plank 😬
Sounds like you are doing really.well. Press ups are hard especially if you do them properly. At least with assisted ones you can keep a good eye on your form which will work the muscles better. Well done on your month. Rfc x
I'm really enjoying the yoga I've been doing - just youtube videos - so it has been no hardship adding that into my schedule all month. Tick! Also made 100k running. Tick! Have even been doing the strength sessions on my running plan. Big tick! Haven't done anything for the two longer term goals yet though. Needs a plan for May!
