Post IC. How to get fitter again.

I graduated C25K some time ago then had to stop because of a partially ruptured Achilles tendon.

The running was brilliant for keeping my BS in check.

I tentatively started running again and reached W5/R3. I did that about 5 times because I never managed to do it comfortably (without walking a few paces in some sections) and stuck there for about 3 weeks.

Problem is that I am feeling pain in my 'good' ankle now and I feel so utterly achey all over that my sleep is very poor.

I just don't know where to go now. I really need to keep my BS down (already on a warning following poor Retinopathy scan).

I can manage to do Michael Moseleys 'Fast cycling'. I find it totally kinackering though. I would like to find a pilates or yoga pod cast and try to combine that with the HIIT cycling.

Advice please! Not in a very good place at the moment.

Hi Beek,. I remember you from the C25k, sorry you've been having a tough time. The strength and flex podcasts are good for a base level fitness and only take 5 weeks. You might find the calf exercises and squats might help with the ankle pain, and specially if there is some tightness there. I find squats really good for stegnthening my ankles. I'm with you I find hiit very taxing and have trouble doing the recommended three times a week, maybe I'm doing it too hard I'm not sure? Keep coming back on here I'm sure we can all help each other get to a good place.

Hello again, Realfoodieclub! My, you've gone up in the world I see. Admin now, as is JuJu. Congrats, both of you!

Yes, I'm struggling on several fronts at the moment. I'm fighting a ghastly chesty cold at the moment so right now there is a reason for things being off. However, that aside, I find that the gentle running makes me need to sleep for the rest of the day. It also makes me aware of every muscle in my body, plus pain in my 'good' amkle. Totally counterproductive! I'm not controlling my BS adequately (hence trying the running again) and I'm eating a very low carb diet. Practice nurse did say that may make me lacking in energy.

I'm repeating my original post now but I'll look up the specific exercises you mentioned and start off again by doing those.

Many thanks for replying and I'm looking forward to being part of the group again!

Hehe I've been a little active on the forum front there are thre of us admins Me, Ju-Ju and Poppypug. We all help to look after the C25k, Bridge to 10km, Marathon and event, Stregnth and flex and the newest one was launched yesterday walking for health,. There are some really familiar faces that have come over to that, I'm sure you would feel right at home there as well. On the running front I'm a run walker when it comes to distances, my heart really does not like constant running I go from structured run/walk timing to run as far as I want then take a walk break and start again. It works for me and it makes me still feel like a runner. I did a HM in just over three hours doing that. I can't offer any advice in the carb side of things, I just don't function without them. Especially when I'm exercising. BS is that blood sugar? If it is can you do things like pulses. There are a lot of good falafel bites or even kidney bean chocolate brownies that are low fat, low sugar with long term ernegy release and they really do taste good.
