Bob & Jean Anderson’s classic book about STRETCHING

I haven’t run now for 2 weeks 😱 due to ice and snow 🥶❄️🌨⛄️, and on the one hand I feel guilty; on the other I see some people slipping outside our house and rather feel justified. But there are certainly two types of gremlins fighting it out 👺🧚🏻‍♀️ in my mind and every day I wake up and think ‘do I dare’. And then I cannot tell anymore if I’m just procrastinating or if I’m rightfully cautious. 👺🧚🏻‍♀️

So in the meantime I’m rowing (Indoors) and doing Yoga.

But I also finally tidied up some book shelves, and re-found my favourite stretching book that got me through my younger days with all my cycling and tennis.

I don’t think it’s in print anymore, and when I started running, I actually looked for an Bob Anderson app 🤣 ,- to no avail. Although a classic, in popularity it probably has been overtaken by various stretching apps on smartphones , but I have yet to find an app that in such detail describes each individual stretch, suggests various stretch routines for all sorts of activities and is structured so well, that you will always find the right routine very quickly. It was my Yoga before I started Yoga. It was my flexibility reference before the age of Youtube and iPhones.

So here my thanks to the author and illustrator, husband and wife team, Bob and Jean Anderson.

Happy stretching everyone!

Interesting to look at those pictures and recognise those moves...either from yoga positions or various warm up/cool down stretches here or on work out videos/apps!Some things just don’t need improving!👍

I've just had a Google and your book is still available from several on line book suppliers. It's good to see such clear diagrams I find on YouTube they just assume you know the names and positions of all your muscle groups. Plus often you can't actually see their moves clearly as they only have one camera angle.

Yeah , it’s a great book, and we did refer to it again and again. We mislaid it for a year or so, so now found again, we will refer to it again, so I can recommend it if there are copies still available.

What great illustrations! It's brought back memories of a book my dad brought home when I was in my early teens, on yoga. I had great fun with it, and it awakened a life long interest in gentle exercise. Up to that point it had been netball or nothing. And I hated netball!

Yes, and I find it even further inspiring that it was a husband (fitness expert) and wife (graphic designer) Team that created this book. A real collaboration that benefited so much from each other’s talents.
