Natural supplements

Is anybody taking any natural supplements to help and if so which ones?

I went to a chiropractor today to try to ease my arthritic hips and he mentioned a plant based iron, vitamin D3 and green matcha powder.

I ask as my latest blood results have shown my iron is through the floor again (I have GAVE) so am waiting on iron infusions and they want me to trial ferrous fumerate as couldn’t cope with ferrous sulphate.

So am slightly interested in alternatives but also don’t want to spend a small fortune if they no good!! 😀

thanks for reading

Floradex is a great liquid iron. But do eat iron rich foods

I can't take ferrous sulphate, bungs me up. Ferrous fumarate is fine but I always have to specify it or I get given ferrous sulphate.

thank you ferrous sulphate did the same to me, the fumerate is not great either but hoping it may settle down (I also suffer from IBS-C)

Hi Lily I also have gave and struggle with my iron. I tolerate ferrous fumerate but only take one every other day. I’m trying spatone, a natural water supplement that’s high in iron on the days I don’t have the ferrous fumerate. Don’t know how much it helps really but I haven’t had to have any infusions for a while.

Thank you so much for replying to me. Sorry you are in the same situation, I am taking the ferrous fumerate every other day as well, and waiting for an iron infusion to boost the levels again. A friend also mentioned Floradix have you tried that?

No have never tried Floradix, my GPis a bit anti me taking supplements as he feels that the body can only absorb so much iron and it will just get rid of the rest but I thought I’d just try a liquid supplement. Have you had any treatments for your gave. I’ve had something called argon plasma coagulation and more recently banding to the blood vessels in my stomach. Can’t say they have been that successful but I know it takes months to get iron stores back up so am being patient 😅

No I have had no treatment for my GAVE they referred me to a gastroenterologist that ended up being a locum (am in Cornwall so you get luck of the drawer down here) who promptly wrote on the notes some other immune condition and then when the original consultant came back they just wrote and signed me off! I know the GAVE is still active (so to speak) as my iron levels have crashed out in under 3 months, so am trying to get a referral to Prof Denton at the Royal Free. To be honest when I go to see my Dr or Rheumatologist I feel like they are not taking me seriously and that I am wasting their time so I end up just agreeing to what they say so for an easy life. I did kick back this time as the low iron was making me feel quite ill and breathless, and I thought enough is enough! 😂

I am currently being seen by Dr Pauling who is a specialist at Southmead hospital which is part of the north Bristol nhs trust. I am also having my gave treated here. Maybe easier for you to get a referral to them although I believe Professor Denton is the go to if you can get in to see him. Good luck hope things improve for you soon, nothing worse than feeling you are not being taken seriously.
